Jets and Pennington closer Premium Story New York Jets QB Chad Pennington cheers from the sidelines as the Jets play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Oct 9, 2005 (AP Photo/Chad Rachman) By Lane Adkins Date: Feb 24, 2006 The ongoing saga between the New York Jets and quarterback Chad Pennington continued on Friday for yet another day. Pennington, recovering from a second shoulder surgery, is closer to remaining a Jet this evening, although no restructured deal has been reached. Discussions between Pennington's agent Tom Condon and Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum have met with some success. While the quarterback has not agreed to the massive restructure offered by the team over the past couple weeks, there has been some movement in regards to a base salary and easily reached incentives. One of the issues which made the initial negotiation process rather 'testy' was the pay-cut suggested by the team. Pennington has been steadfast in wanting to keep similar financial payouts, even if the deal is significantly restructured. Pennington is comfortable in New York and is believed to have wavered with respect to leaving the team in recent days, which has increased the importance and desire to get a deal complete between the two parties. Tannenbaum said the two sides have had "many conversations" and are "in the middle of active negotiations."
The meeting is today accoring to the Bergen Record, NY Post and Newsday. Doesn't mean they came/will come to an agreement today though.
I guess we should find out soon what the situation is A good and fair (and easily reachable) incentive would to get paid by the # of games he starts. If he starts every game he hits payday and it helps us out too, because we get performance. If he dosent then we save money and cut him. He was to count 8 mill against the cap, was it? So I guess they could restructure it into a deal like 500K per start? But therell prolly be other incentives thatll affect the deal too

I know Herm and Chad are close, but I don't see how that move really makes sense for either of them. Chad isn't going to get a chance to start over Green, and I think if you want a backup you want someone that you know what you are getting. I can't imagine that his value is SO low that if he got cut he couldn't find a job with a team that could give him a chance to start if he played well in training camp and the preseason.
Listen, I work for the new york post, he is most likely going to stay and renegotiate from what my buddy tells me in the sports department
he either better take a huge paycut considering hes already made 22 in guaranteed money or sit on someone elses bench.. at least we would give him a CHANCE to start for this team.. no other team will.. well, no other team that isnt rebuilding which is one of the reasons why we would give him a chance in the first place.. bc we are so behind the elite teams in the NFL that it wont really make a difference to win the superbowl...i dont like him bc he acts like mr. team player but is now acting like a bitch.. 22 mil dollars!! most ppl could live off 3 mil for the rest of their lives.. thats 100K a year for 30 years.. he's already has 7 times that much for playing 3 seasons.. screw him
theres no way hes going to take a huge cut and I don't see other teams wanting to take on that contract
