Thomas Jones is a workhorse. He's a team first guy. He's not injury prone. Shonn Greene is an injury away from losing the season, and who knows about Leon? And now that they have signed another potential trouble-maker, Jones is needed in the locker room more than ever. DO NOT LET THOMAS JONES GO! GIVE HIM WHAT HE WANTS! HE JUST HAD A FRIGGIN' CAREER YEAR! GIVE HIM THE MONEY AND THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVES! DON'T LET HIM GO!
Every player is an injury away from losing the season. TJ is getting hold (He's 32.) and he's on the decline. 330 carries in one season, he will not repeat 1400 yards, and he's not worth SIX MILLION to us when he's going to be playing 1/3 of the snaps at best.
I disagree... I no what your saying he is a great guy to have in the locker room but lets face it he was out of gas and the only way I want him back is if it at huge bargain. anyone can fall forward for three yards
First of all, the guy deserves the money. If any player does, he does. But that's beside the point. I'm not worried about Woody's millions or billions, and Woody shouldn't be worried about money now that there's no salary cap. I want the Jets to re-sign him and give him the money he deserves. He is not old, and he has kept his body in better shape than everyone in the NFL. TANNY, SIGN HIM AGAIN AND GIVE HIM THE MONEY!
With one of the best lines in the game- Look what our rookie did back there when given the chance. Shonn was much more explosive and should be the featured back based on his performance. As long as he holds onto the damn ball that is.
He's a real "team first guy." He's not an HGH malcontent who refused to talk to Cedric Benson in Chicago or anything. Newsflash: he's gone and good riddance. SG hits the whole with WAY more authority. Football is a young man's game.
I'm really glad someone made a thread to discuss this. It's a wonder that there wasn't anywhere to do so already. Forget Thomas Jones. He's on the wrong side of 30, and he was shit in the playoffs where we needed him. When Greene went down in Indy we all knew the season was over. That's telling. He was given the opportunity to stay. He just had to renegotiate his cost down. He thought he could do more on the open market. Maybe he can, but it will be somewhere he won't win. That was his choice. I'm sure if he came back to Tanny and offered to play for less next year, maybe even what he would have made minus the roster bonus we saved, he could get his contract. If he's stuck on making more though, he's going to have to do it elsewhere.
I doubt it. There are teams that need him more than we do. He'd be our 3rd runningback. Why overpay when you already have two more explosive runningbacks on the team in Shonn Greene and Leon Washington. I want to give both players as many touches as possible, but still have a 3rd option available who is capable of carrying a good deal of the load in case of injury. Jones won't be that guy
I'm not trying to knock #23 ... I love his talent ... but just MAYBE ... part of the reason he was so explosive was because he was operating in a 2 back system, running against softened-up defenses. TJ is a warrior ... he never misses a game, he carries the load, and he NEVER puts the ball on the ground. It's idiotic to release him in an upcapped year. Everyone knows this is a two back league. We had the best rushing offense in the NFL. Why do we need to mess with it???? This is typical Jet cheapness ... year after year they refuse to take care of the guys who have given their blood and guts for the team. I'm really tired of this BS. Just pay the man Woody. You have the money, and he deserves it.
