NY Giants News & Notes : Do the Giants Still Own NYC ? by cjmulrain on Apr 7, 2010 > http://www.bigblueview.com/2010/4/7/1409383/ny-giants-news-notes-do-the-giants
UGGGGGHHHHH. OF COURSE THEY DO..... In New york we have the older guard teams - the Yankees, The Giants and the Rangers.... Fandom and season tickets have traveled generations for these teams. As a Jets fan and as an Islander fan I have tremendous respect for those franchises with the deeper roots and fans that have been part of those teams for generations... I HATE the Rangers- But, I respect those fans as some of the craziest and most loyal fans in all sports... Then we have the "Expansion" teams - The Jets, the Islanders and the Mets.... You will NEVER Hear me talk about one of my teams "Taking over New York"..... I think it's so incredibly stupid and shows a lack of understanding about New York, a lack of class and shows an INFERIORITY COMPLEX...... At least win a few World Championships... MAYBE in the early 80's the Islanders had a small claim - But, even that... Damn. I roll my eyes and laugh every other year when some Met Dipshit or worse one of the Mets dipshit radio guys starts talking about taking over the city - CHILD PLEASE. SHUT UP AND ENJOY YOUR TEAM.....
Fuck the Spankees. The best thing that could happen would be a gas leak in the locker room and the whole team and gets blown to bits. Hopefully the Wilpons would be in the locker room that day. Hopefully Jeter will have "Michael Jackson" moment and open up an artery while doing a Gillette commercial. If you respect the fans of the Spankees and Gints then you haven't been harassed enough by fans of rivalry teams. They are one and the same - arrogant Yankee fans and arrogant Gints fans. Although lately some of the less arrogant gint fans have come out of the woodwork, respecting the Jets and saying the wait looks like it over soon. Even Giant fans like RR and think he's the right coach for the team. Fuck 'em all anyway... I no longer have an inferiority complex with my teams. The Mets were an expansion team in 1962. That's 11 years BEFORE I was born. The Jets came into existence before that. I root for the Jets and follow all things about this team...I'm even a member of a Jets message board that I visit during the off-season  The Jets have been successful more than not since 1998 compared to their history prior with the exception of '69. Although not champions, they are fairing better than some of the other teams around the league. The Jets are MY team. The Giants are firemanedjr's & FGF's team. The teams now SHARE a stadium, not rent from the other. No more inferiority complexes. Rex can talk all he wants as long as he produces. If we're in the playoffs each year, I don't care if the team backs in, forwards in, or gets "helicoptered in". No more inferiority complex. As for the Mets - well they pretty much suck right now. The owners don't have a clue.
I think that there are more Jets fans than Mets and Islanders, but that's just me. I think Jets vs Giants is closer than we all think.
I'm hoping the same. I want the Wilpons to lose everything and sell to someone who actually gives a shit about the team and baseball. Thanks for that 17a Oh wait - its Kelly...my bad. Can't tell you two apart cause of the avatars
Growing up I never remember the Giants being the team of NYC. I knew the Rangers and Yankees were the NYC team for their sports, but the Giants/Jets always seemed close and neither team was the team. I honestly don't care though.
I dont think the Jets ever came close to giants... for now But a few years of the Giants playing like the joke that they've become, and Rex with the Jets I think that changes significantly. Outside of the giants ability to pass the ball last season, the rest of their team was in complete shambles. And I cant see that getting fixed anytime soon, which means everyone starts hopping off the bandwagon from when they won the sbowl. And with the odds of the Jets winning at least one ( or multiple) superbowls in the near future, its relatively certain that the Jet fanbase will rapidly expand.
