I went B. I love Wilson, but I feel Vlad was a need pick, and I hate picking for need, especially when there is so much value in this draft. Vlad's got the potential to be a star G or RT, but I don't envision that happening before 2011, at the earliest. We need DL help, and DL for our defense will be slim-pickin's by 125.
A- Kyle Wilson was the steal of Round 1. I wanted McCourty, the Jets did one better with Wilson...Outstanding. Vald Ducasse.....an outstanding run blocker, a huge O-Lineman, needs to work on pass protection. Should have been an early rd 2 pick..nice value. I like his versatility to play OG/T. I would have given the draft an A if we took Cam Thomas. I believe Thomas would be a perfect addition to Rex's D-Line. Thomas' stock may have dropped due to having very good D-Line at North Carolina...he didn't stand out.
Now that it is 100% apparent Faneca is on the outs, and will be cut monday at the latest, I worry about Ducasse more than I did last night. If he had a year to develop under the best OL coach in the league prior to being asked to start, I feel it would have been a homerun pick. With Faneca gone, the Jets are clearly hoping Ducasse will be starting at LG this season (otherwise why draft him in round 2?) I worry that throwing a D I-AA prospect into the fire at LG could be a significant downgrade out the gate, and might result in Sanchez getting killed at the same right leaving faneca out there would. I have to think grabbing a guard that is more ready would benefit more right now, but Ducasse will be best down the road, so who I guess its up to Callahan to develop this guy really fast. He better be ready to come in and work long hours to become a stud quickly
A-. We got extremely good value with both picks. Not the positions I had in mind going and and still concerned about the depth along the D-line, but they were both excellent picks.
I went with "B+." Just can't get into that "A" category. I'm satisfied with Wilson, delighted, in fact, especially because he fills the need at nickel and also KR. He'll contribute immediately. Can never have enough quality fresh legs and depth at corner, especially in our division. Ducasse I'm still out on. Don't like his "rawness," and any time you have to hype the "potential," that means there's a lot of work to do. He'll probably not be contributing immediately, so I can't see how anyone can rate the draft so far in the "A" category for the first two picks. Unless we do some real magic in the later rounds, I can't see how we'll rate an "A" this year.
I gave it an A but now I'm sorry I didn't give it an A+ because with this draft (and picks from this draft) we got Wilson, Ducasse, Edwards, Cromartie and Holmes. And we still have three picks to go. Has anyone else in the draft done this well? Two top corners, two top receivers and a roadgrader? You cant whine about not having enough picks without looking at what you got for those picks. Who could we have gotten in the fifth round that matches Holmes? In Rex and Tanny I trust.
A B cus I didn't like the Faneca move (I understand why we did it) but this could move up to A+ if Ducasse is dominant
What does that even mean? If you need a player, then it's a GOOD thing to pick a guy that fits. And in this case, we got great value, to boot. He's a great talent who may be able to contribute this year at LG, and with our great coaching and O-line leadership, he should have no problem moving out to RT to bookend (amazingly) with D'Brick in 2011 or 2012. Who would you have rather seen the Jets pick at #61? I bet most people you may have mentioned are still available (Cam Thomas, Ricky Sapp, et. al), but I could be wrong.
I gave us a B+. I love the first 2 picks and while I'm not killing the CS for McKnight - our D-line & OLBs could use an upgrade/depth.
With the McNight pick, I'm now ready to downgrade my assessment to a "B-" or lower. We trade two picks to Carolina to move up for McNight and are now virtually out of the draft for all practical purposes. I know we're trying to find a Leon replacement, but this isn't Leon. Check out some of the you-tube videos and you'll see the guy is a decent north-south runner but nowhere near comes close to Leon's elusiveness and juking abilities as a divergence from Green's style. Then there's this: "The Sporting News list the following as his weaknesses "a slight frame and struggled in college to avoid injuries, including many minor dings; must prove he is tough enough for the NFL. Is not an aggressive runner and has a tendency to dance to avoid contact while searching for a hole. Tries to bounce almost all rushing attempts outside if he does not see a hole initially; will not lower shoulder and attack line of scrimmage to gain tough yardage. Is not good in short-yardage situations. Runs upright, leading to hard hits and limiting his ability to run after contact. Does not gain nearly as many yards after contact as you would expect for someone with his elusiveness."
Ugh with Mcknight I'll drop to B B- We came into the draft with no needs besides depth. We got none at our oldest position Dline. Not happy at all.
I know rex thinks he can make any DL good in his system but they certainly passed on some decent 3-4 prospects while having an old DL
Kyle Wilson : A+ Vladimir Ducasse: A- Joe McKnight: C+ Overall: B+ Following the 7th round and mulling it over: Kyle Wilson: A+ Vladimir Ducasse: A Joe McKnight: B John Connor: B Overall: A- I think we pick up some DE/DL/LB undrafted. Remember, Rex finds guys he likes that went undrafted - Leonhard and Scott both went unpicked. In such a deep draft there should be a pool of quality talent that we can call up in about an hour.
I am no good at analyzing the draft, so this is what I think lamens like me see it Wilson - We now have the best CB trio in the league with the addition of a guy who was rumored to be jumping over Haden for the #1CB in the entire draft. A Vlad - I was way more concerned about our OL and our DL. Rex doesn't dress many D linemen, and I think the guys we have right now can still contribute. Now we have another young offensive linemen who can play multiple positions. A McKnight - Anyone who thought Washington was going to be a Jet this coming year was living a pipe dream. Too much shit went down between his agent, him not signing the first contract, then reluctantly signing the tender. He was a Jet fan favorite (one of mine definitely), but he was a situational role player. Now the Jets have 3 running backs who accept their roles. A- Connor - I was surprised by this pick, and I think that mainly had to do with Washington leaving too. Long term though this could be a great pick up. Richardson can only do what he is doing for so long (3 years tops, and that's pushing it), and Connor was rated the best FB in the draft. I am personally a huge fan of picking up guys like this late in the draft at positions that aren't coveted by the NFL, which in turn is why I wouldn't have been a fan is we grabbed a S in the early rounds. A late round pick who can immediately contribute, gotta love that. And that's not to mention the awesome T2 references we are now allowed to use as a fan base. A- So from the mind of the completely uneducated, I give it an A.
