The interesting thing is that it isn't really the passing numbers that guaranteed this - it's the money he'd be owed this year (over $6 million), and the fact that he doesn't seem to care about getting better. He's only 24, has only started 2 seasons, and had 16 TDs and 19 INTs in those 2 seasons. That's not as bad as it seemed by watching him.

There are no doubt plenty of QBs who ultimately became successful who had much worse numbers after their first two seasons - check out the numbers for Jim Plunkett, Troy Aikman, and Terry Bradshaw their first couple of seasons - and I wonder if anyone out there might be willing to sign him for peanuts just to see what might happen (cue the joke about him then eating the peanuts). What's probably ultimately the case is that he'd rather just take the money, go home, and not subject himself to all that hard work. How many people on this board wouldn't do the exact same thing if they could?

I wouldn't. I would consider that stealing millions of dollars from the Oakland Raiders...It's borderline immoral, in my opinion.

I miss the good ole days of jeaux in his heyday. I'm kinda of bummed he didn't return to see this glorious day of days. After days of slamming my head against the wall of his stupidity, our final victory has finally been accomplished.

(I know he's fake and I'm being sarcastic) Just one for old times sake.

JRusssell is going to be better then Pmaning (All experts say he ahead of Pmanning development at this stage ofhis career) Listen up Jet Fan, youre pretTy boy qb will nevver have the arm strength let alone the mind of JRusSell. My preddiction has never been wrong(check the track record if you don't believe me) AL Daviss know what he's doing( Godfather of footballl genius)) Jet fan you won't be laughing when Raider are holding the Lombardi trophy.

I'm guessing the owners will use this an example that the league needs a rookie salary slotting system in place in the next agreement.

Antoine Walker went through $100 million in about 12 years...How many months before we see a story on Outside The Line showing that Russell is now broke?

Well he made his cash, I just hope he doesn't blow it all and he should be fine.

That being said, what team would pick him up? He is a turnover machine and has not improved at all.

Have got to admit, Al Davis is actually making a lot of smart moves this offseason, and is admitting how wrong he was by releasing Russell after just 3 years. That or Tom Cable has him locked up and beaten in a closet.

He's probably hung himself. He couldn't take the fact that the Raiders just cut the next Peyton Manning.

You think it would be immoral for him to not try to get another NFL job and just live off the money he's already gotten? Because that's what I was talking about.

Oh, no, of course not. I thought you meant would we just sign a #1 overall contract with an NFL team and then not try as hard as possible to succeed in the NFL.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
