Here is an article about Nick Folk, starting to feel a bit more comfortable with him going into the season:
I am somewhat troubled that the author of the article did not know that the reason the Jets let Feely go was to free up money to sign a free agent - who turned out to be Taylor.
Disagree. I think it's pretty clear the reason we let Feely go is because it gave us flexibility to sign a free agent. But Tannenbaum can't come out and say that, even if it is true. It's a sad fact of the cap the way it is (or isn't) right now. Now we have to take a risk at kicker that we otherwise wouldn't have had to.
Havent checked the boards in awhile - that said, I had Folk as my fantasy kicker in 07 and 08 and Loved every second of it....I remember being pissed as I missed out of him in 09 (good thing) knowing he had a hip injury makes me think that I will once again be Loving him.
Kicking in windless Texas Stadium half his games is quite different from kicking in New Jersey. While he may turn out to be a great pick-up, it remains to be seen.
this is a underrated pickup he was one of the most promising kickers in the league after the crazy consecutive 53 yarders he did against buffalo in the last second of the game. if you look at the stats in his first two years, it is nothing but straight A's the only thing i see as utterly confusing, is why he didn't go to his kicking coach earlier during the season when it was very apparent he was playing terrible at his prime he is built like a playoff ready kicker thats for certain if you havent seen the buffalo game, look up monday night football cowboys vs bills on youtube
I dont get it, how would saving $500,000 move you from not being in position to sign a free agent to being in a position to sign a free agent? or was it to free up roster spots?
Under the rules of the Final 8 Plan in the CBA, the Jets could only sign an unrestricted free agent once they lost one of equal or greater salary value, not counting certain bonuses that aren't restricted by the rules. Once we let Feely walk, it freed up a spot to sign a UFA, and that guy ended up being Jason Taylor.
