No, I think the reaction would be "this guy had better be as good or better". That trade would never happen anyway. Your basis for the comparison isn't the best one anyway. Just looking at stats can make many players look better or worse than they are. Who is the best player Asomugha has faced? Probably Brandon Marshall. Vincent Jackson would likely be second. Revis plays in a division with Moss, and has had to take on Lee Evans and T.O. regularly. Then think about the out of division opponents Revis will face. They Jets have done better than the Raiders since Revis has been in the league. This means they've faced tougher opponents. Revis has had to perform at his level against better players than Asomugha has. I still think they might be tied for the best, but if one has to be better, it's Revis by a nut hair.
Unfortunately for you, the Raiders won't be relevant again until Al Davis' icy cold crazy grip is released from the throat of the organization. I love football and love its history. The Raiders have always been a respectable organization, a good team, and a hated rival especially because of all the bad blood between the Jets n Raiders. The history of your team is still impressive and its a shame it has gone to hell in a hand basket the last decade (8 years). I'll enjoy that insignificance as an opposing fan, but from the "love of the game" perspective - its a God damn shame.
I'm not ignoring your post. I already told you that I know Aso didn't shadow, and I already told you that mid last season I would've said Revis is better based on that fact, and I already told you that Aso did start shadowing recievers (not 100%, but still effective enough, especially after watching all that stay at home corner crap) towards the end of last season, and I already told you that Aso was just as shut down when following recievers as he was when staying on the right said. Of course the more targets you get, the less the percentage will be complete. If next year Revis gets only 1 to 2 targets per game, trust me, those are 1 or 2 targets are routes that the qb and wr worked on A LOT, specifically to beat that corner. And honestly, as sick as Revis was this year, I wouldn't be surprised if thats the case next year, same thing happened with aso from '06 to '07 So, in case you didn't get it, YES, Revis is used much more effectively, if he was on the raiders he would just sit on one side, pretty retarded, i know, but there's not much i can do about it, i'm not the raiders' d coordinator. Doesn't mean I think he's better, I don't think he can blanket recievers the way Aso can....there's really no numbers, so i can't bust out a stat, that's just what i think, based on the fact that he completely shuts down recievers. I was watching a mic'd up, after Marshall's 21 catch game, he told Orton to air it out to him, he told Marshall as long as #21's on you i'm not even looking there....i'm sure we'd hear something like that in every game if they were all mic'd up. BLANKET son, BLANKET. You seem to be mad at me for not agreeing Revis is better. If its any consolation, i think he's #2 in the league, ahead of former raider woodson. Al just knows how to pluck out those nasty db's
very true, but i'm not trying to "twist" any stats to make aso look better. If i am, then i'm doing so without realizing
until i see aso following around the opposing team's best wr and shutting that guy down all game it is revis.
^^haha, true, when a franchise is in as sad a state as oakland is in you have to overpay players to come/stay. I'd rather overpay Aso than Randy Moss, Warren Sapp, Javon Walker, and Jamarcus Russel tho, so its ok. So Revis is sticking to $1mill this year, not 20?
fair this is john marshall's 2nd yr as d coordinator, and if he doesn't utilize Aso in that manner then it will be a huge dissappointment. He did the last quarter of last year tho, so I will be surprised if he doesn't continue to
No, we would not be excited about that trade. Aso will be 29 this yr I believe while Revis hasn't even entered his prime yet at 24 going on 25 years old. Apart from that, Im not sure why a lot of people are giving you a hard time. For the first time, I see a Raider fan that is actually trying to make some sense rather than saying, "we gonna roll all over you. We got Aso and we got Russell. Russell will ya...blablabla". Trust me, we've seen that. You try to give props to both, and why not? They both deserve it. Jets fans will say Aso doesn't follow #1 while Revis does and thats why they'll claim him the best. Well, I think no following #1 shouldn't go against you, but it sure does help. If I had the choice between the two, hands down it would be Revis atleast for his age. He's a team player (well, until the contract talks at least). He's flexible in the sense that you can line him up even at the slot and he'll still make a play. Aso doesn't line up in such a way, but that isn't to say he can't. The fact that Revis does, gives him the upper hand, IMO of course. Aso seems like a great as well. He's an excellent tackler too. Basically, he's everything you'll want from a corner. Utilizing him is a different story. As for Revis, he is also a great tackler. I think I saw Revis miss ONE tackle last year and that just a good juke move by either Ricky Williams or Welker, not sure. Thing is, Revis is still 24, going on 25. He WILL get even better and thats a scary thought for any offensive coordinator. He is barely entering his prime and yet to peak IMO. Aso on the other hand is at the back end of his prime and probably has two more all-pro caliber seasons left before age catches up. Basically, there is no straight answer to your question since they both play different type of game.
That right there is why Revis wins hands down. OC's don't lay awake at night afraid of Aso. He's great, yeah, but he doesn't inspire fear. Revis not only dominates you on the field, he dominates you off it. There's not too many other DB's who have branded themselves as "the guy you just don't fuck with" quite like he has. And at 25 the legend's only gonna grow.
I would have to disagree with the OC's not being afraid of Aso. I think the entire football world would have to disagree with that. Yea, ur right, Revis can still keep climbing and improving, which he probably will, especially learning from a genius like Rex Ryan
LOLOL...really?? I don't think anyone here would be excited, or even a little happy. way to announce that your a complete troll though.
I know there's no straight answer, I guess thats what makes it more interesting to discuss. Of course I got love for Revis, he's a beast, who the hell would say he sucks To be honest, in one of these aso vs revis threads on the raiders board, I was like "as good as woodson and revis are, i'd be very surprised if most people on packers and jets boards didn't agree that aso's still the best." So I came here just to find out. Turns out I was very wrong. I'm surprised .... I got served
