Len Pasquarelli thinks Edwards might be a releasee between June 1st and training camp. I'm thinking this is the kind of veteran help at LB that would give the Jets some leeway as they switch to a 3-4. He's currently on the inside in San Diego's 3-4 and would slot in next to Vilma and give the Jets some time to develop one of the younger guys to take over there in 2007.

The knock on him at the moment is that he's slowing down a bit. I'm also thinking that with Vilma alongside him that weakness is at least partially mitigated.

    Thoughts?

Tell me where this defense is old...Von Oelhoffen is our only starter on the defense who is over 30...Mick will be a 5th DB, depth...Jeez man chill out.

He's a great LB, but I don't think we'd pick him up. We drafted and signed a ton of young LB's and we're just going to develop what we have. Let a contender sign him for a few years to help get them over the hump.

Who's spot will he take?!?! Some of you who are all excited over adding another big name player fail to realize that he would likely be competing with Vilma for his spot. There both undersized, speedy lb's with range but we can't have 2 rangy weak ILB's in the 3-4.....

The Patriots have $10 mil in cap space and have Edwards on speed dial should he be released. He can still play (averages 100 tackles a year) but I would think at this point with his age he would want to play for a team that can win right away.

If I was Donnie I would want to play for the Colts. They could still use some more help at LB and are a team that has been so close.

They don't have any money left and where's he going to play with Brackett as the middle linebacker in the 4-3?.

Does anyone understand WHY Edwards is on the outs at SD?

    He wants Ray Lewis money.

He's not Ray Lewis. He's not even close.

He IS a solid but aging 3-4 ILB. How can you sign him and explain to Vilma why DE is getting twice the money?

We have a ncie group of LB's now, Edwards would only upset the apple cart.

He's signed for 2006 and 2007. That makes the money issue moot to SD, although obviously his demands will be different if he's released.

He's also played inside and outside in a 3-4. So he could theoretically resolve the hole next to Vilma inside or the hole that is Victor Hobson outside.

Personally I only see two linebackers on the Jets at the moment that I would trust to play well next year: Vilma and Barton. So I'm assuming that the Jets need to have one of the young guys come through and also find somebody else. Kassel might well be one of the fillers but after that we're relying on Schlegel to be good early on or on Victor Hobson to actually become a playmaker. 3-4 linebackers need to create impact when they play and Hobson is the least impactful starting linebacker the Jets have ever had.

You totally got me wrong, i was saying that the defense is young! thats why i dont want mickens and edwards coming in and just bringing in old dead weight.
