I caught the Boomer Esiason show on SNY last night - with his special guest - Chad Pennington. Pennington was pretty forthright in his comments about his injury and the issues surrounding the two surgeries. He doesn't blame the former FO/CS for letting him play with the injury and delay the first surgery. I never thought he would (although I do) because he's a team guy - and he wanted to win and thought he could help his team. He did say he rushed back, but pure Chad - he never blames anyone else for the second injury. Boomer asked a tough question - what he thought about John Abraham sitting out the 2004 playoffs while Chad played knowing he had to have offseason surgery. Pennington said it's an individual thing, and even though Abe said he was "protecting his future" Penny says Abe must have thought he would hurt the team. Truly a team guy all the way - even though you know it's crap. Pennington is supremely confident, and you can't help but love the guy. He says he's worked and worked to come back better and stronger. Boomer says the one big thing he notices other than Chad's confidence is the fact that Pennington is physically bigger than he was before the surgeries. Boomer alluded to the fact that Pennington has been working out like crazy, and has added size and strength to his frame. Whether his physical conditioning or his mental attitude have any effect on his ability to come back after two surgeries - something no other NFL QB has ever done - remains to be seen. But, as Boomer said, and I agree, you just can't help but root for the guy. gg
I don't root for Chad. He's a nice enough guy, and I'm sure he has heart, but he's simply not good enough to win it all. The guy has never played a full season. Simply put, I don't root for Chad, I root for the Jets.
its a bout time he added some muscle...he was scrawney when he came into the league and should have spent the first couple of years working out...not saying that would have prevented the injuries but at least it would have helped him in the pocket when he was healthy
I hope Chad can come back and contribute. However, I more interetsed in seeing the QB that gives the best chance to win on the field.
I would love nothing more than for Chad to succeed and become a star. Do I have any faith that it will happen ? No, but I root for him all the same. Would I give the job to Ramsey if he is even slightly ahead after camp, yes.
my thoughts exactly. chad should have been bulking up as soon as he was drafted. his intangibles - leadership, intelligence, winning mentality - would/will only take him so far. i hate to always use the Pats as an example, but they are the bar; look at Brady: scrawny coming out of college and now he has more-than-adequate arm strength, attributed to the gym, not fishing and grillin' out. it's good to know Pennington has added some muscle. i just wonder if, at this point, it's too late (due to the surgeries 'n all). besides, i think i'm already on the Clemens bandwagon. cheers
There is way more money invested in Chad. Obviously. So starting Ramsey no matter what is a smart move in my book. Chad was rarin to go last year too and he blew up. Same exact talk too. He would be well served to tone it down and play it low key. If Ramsey does well no harm to the Jets. It may not serve Chad too well but he would be able to come in if the Jets are sitting in a good spot and work out his arm in real game situtions and maybe improve his stock.
