http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...ed:+nydnrss/blogs/jets+(Blogs/The+Jet+Stream) Another article by our main man So hmm is Brunell really worth signing as a backup? Jeff Garcia would be pretty good as a backup if he knew he wasn't going to start, other then that anything is better then Kellen, that game vs. the Ravens couple seasons back looks like a loss memory to me now
I wouldn't mind keeping both of them, and letting go of Ainge and O'Connell. I think we should bring Brunell in, and let him and Clemens battle it out for the #2 spot. I'm talking about a legitimate QB battle, not like a Mark Sanchez vs. Kellen Clemens QB battle, lol. Then regardless of who gets it the other guy can be our third.
I feel bad for Clemens... he is such a class act... but he clearly doesn't have confidence from Schotty & co. I don't know if it's because of the system we run but the guy just doesn't look like an NFL capable player. I just hope for him he finds a team for another year because with 5 years in the league you earn the right to medical insurance paid by the league and maybe some pension too. PS While I would like to have Brunell for a year and letting Clemens go in search of a place to prove his worth I also wouldn't mind getting Clemens back in 2011 and making him a perennial clip holder... at least until Schotty is around. By the end of year 2 Sanchez won't need tutoring anymore and Clemens really looks like a nice guy to work with...
How many snaps would they get t battle it out... remember Sanchez lost some OTA time so he needs to get more snaps then he usually would... Plus I think both Ainge and O'Connell have more talent then Clemens so one of the mshould stick around.
The players like him because he knows the system but the fans hate him because he's so god damn inconsistent. Watching him in the Buffalo & Tampa games last year made my eyes bleed. So painful to watch.
Sanchez needs as much time with the 1st team as possible I say if we bring in Brunell let him and Clemens battle out for the 2nd spot, and if Clemens wins, then well I guess he would be #2, get rid of either Ainge or O'Connell (i'd prefer O'Connell in this situation) I wish we could trade Clemens though he hasn't shown me anything since the Ravens game, he can manage a game though
I'd rather see Brad Smith as our backup he can make plays every now and then. Clemens has no pocket presence something they must have clearly overlooked when we drafted him he can know the play book top to bottom but without presence he will never be able to matriculate the offense successfully. Ainge must suck pretty bad as well he's been here long enough to secure one backup spot and if he is no better than O'connel we pretty much have nothing but three career developmental guys wasting roster spots.
If we end up not signing a backup QB, I'd rather see Ainge as the backup. If for some horrible reason we needed the backup in Ainge has the higher ceiling.
Thank you. Somebody gets it. IF Brunell comes on board (which is a big IF at this point in my mind), he becomes the emergency option only. By emergency I mean Sanchez goes down, Smith tears an ACL, Weathorford has another heart murmur, and Schotty twists an ankle after jumping under center himself to hand off to Greene. He's basically a quarterback's coach in cleats. That being said, I think Clemens gets cut after Ainge beats him out and somebody in another team's TC goes down (which happens every year at least once). Rex and Tanny will let him go help someone elsewhere so he can exit gracefully. O'Connell likely gets cut too, or delegated to the scout team. Seriously I doubt there's anyone left but to those who still have an ounce of faith left in Clemens go watch the Bills game again after Mark went down. Class act? yes. Good soldier? no doubt. Viable #2? HELL NO.
I could live with Clemens as the backup, he does know the offense inside and out and he's got a decent arm. He's the classic #2 guy, good enough to stay in the league, not good enough to start. It happens.
Hmmmm... fellow players sticking up for another player and his ability to contribute... this must be some kind of sports first!!! Someone call Herm and get the bus over here so someone can toss Clemens under it!! The real question is whether the CS/FO agrees that Brunell is better than Clemens. The answer boils down to contribution and cost most likely.
Is it me or do these "final eight" rules seem pretty harsh? Geez, you win a playoff game and they penalize you for a year. Is this new or is it just that we rarely make the final eight?
It was only for this year because the salary cap was lifted. It was designed to prevent the best teams from loading up on all of the free agents when they didn't have a salary cap to worry about.
Cost, plain and simple. Clemens is a good guy, the players know this. But unfotunately, this is a business and sometimes nice guys finish last.
