I tend to agree with your posts, and have seen the Jets fail to meet expectations, meaning high expectations!, before. But let's forget about past history except for your points about last year. I think there is a way to look at this team and make a reasonable claim for #1.

The Jets made it to the Champ game. Yeah, the Colts lost to NO, so that's two teams the Jets might have lost to. Maybe the Vikes, even AZ, as well.

But AZ is with Leinart, so they will likely be not as good, and the Vikes got great play from several older players last year including Favre that it's unlikely to see the same level achieved this year. That leaves NO and the Colts.

The Colts beat the Jets for one major reason - Manning could pick on the #2 cb all day. Imo that's why the Cromartie signing has the potential to be huge. Revis is that much more effective if his opposite number is not someone who can be picked on all day long.

I'm not saying that was the only strength on the Colts. And Sanchez has to continue his own play from the playoffs and not the awful mid regular season.

But one thing is fairly clear - if the Colts want to beat the Jets this year, they probably won't be able to do it quite the same way as the last time.

Does that make them better than NO? That's a somewhat different subject. Some argue against NO being #1 because of the difficulty repeating. I don't know about that. They are well coached, have good balance and team chemistry, a great fanbase. Imo they are #1 until proven otherwise.

Agreed. If it were me doing something like this I would have the Jets behind the Saints and Colts at #3 with the Dolphins at #8 and the Patriots at #10.

Are you kidding? You need to take a look at this ...

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/passing/sort/yardsPerPassAttempt/position/defense

That number is not a mirage ...
8.2 ypa ... Good God! That's about as atrocious as it gets ... With the addition of Holmes; having Edwards for the entire season; Tomlinson catching passes out of the backfield; and the continued maturity and development of Sanchez and Keller ... we should do just fine matching up against the Fish.

But, but... the Dolphins have the best cornerback tandem in the league I thought?

Self-inflicted injury, the guy is going to sit out for more money that the Jets won't give him

It's nice but we all know what these lists count for...I still would put the Colts # 1 until I see all the JETS players on the field

Maybe so ... but how well did they reeeeally match up against us in the Ted Ginn game?? I seem to remember the Jets pushing the Dolphins all over the field in that game ... on BOTH sides of the ball. Man on man, it really wasn't close in that game.

the first half of the game was pretty tight from what I remember. I think it was 6-3 at the half

but you guys really dominated the second half honestly.

Exactly, it all comes down to the amount of paper given to Revis.

As of now though he's still signed as a Jet, which is great. Mainly because we are Jet fans.

This is awesome to see even better if they live up to all the hype. That would be a thing of beauty. Go Jets!

Mushin Mohammed said on a NFL segment that last year our 2 corners have the potential to be the best...He said that after playing against them.. I like the fresh opinion of a recently retired good player that played against the players he is praising.

As far as matchups go, I think both offenses will have their way, I just think we'll be more efficient, less mistakes, with a higher T.O.P..

The difference between 1 and 17 would suggest you all are so much better than us, and we know, that that's just not the case...3 strait wins is good data to go by, and going into the following year were, bigger, faster, stronger, younger more athletic all through the linebacking unit, and our QB has a red carpet of variables and proved play at a high level, projecting him into having a good year.

The question I would like to ask the members is?, where do you really rank us?

no, 3 straight wins isn't good to go by because there is a whole season to play.

how about the 5 straight wins from 2006-2008 for the Jets. You guys cling to these 3 straight wins as if they are life itself.

The fins are anywhere from 8-15. There are too many variables to decide if they are a top 10 team, but they are better than half the teams out there.

Just remember where the Saints were ranked at the beginning of last season. The strength of the NFL is in the parity of the league. That being said, between this #1 ranking and the upcoming HBO shows, the hype machine has rolled into the New Meadowlands and is painted Green. I don't have a problem with that!
