Just heard this on NFL Total Access. Seems to be an apparent back injury. More details to come later on.
Per Baltimore Sun via Ravens Insider: Offensive tackle Jared Gaither was carted off the field with what appears to be a back injury, the latest in a series of tough breaks for the Ravens. Gaither had ice on his lower back after being injured in the afternoon practice, according to Sun reporter Edward Lee. The severity of the injury is unknown. He had been rotating with Michael Oher at left and right tackle during the morning and afternoon practices. Gaither had been absent for most of the offseason workouts because of a toe injury. Now, he could miss time because of a back injury. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/spo...rted_off_field_with_apparent_back_injury.html
That's what I keep thinking. This is really sad. I have great respect for that franchise and want a good game against them. With half their team listed as "doubtful" the game will be a little one sided. The Jets should win at home anyway.
I don't know if this quote from Coach Harbaugh sits well with me: Seriously, coach? You have no idea why a human being with various health problems would prefer to weigh 310lbs. instead of 330lbs.? I really frown on some of these coaches who compel their already dangerously overweight players to gain more weight. It's one thing if you want your running back to beef up to 220lbs. or your linebackers to get on the right side of 250, but 310 lbs.? You can't object with a player dropping to 310; that's just self-preservation. I'm beginning to wonder about the value Harbaugh places on his players' health and well-being. First, the full contact OTA's, then the rash of injuries and now he's objecting to what seems like a healthy decision from his left tackle? It smells a little like Belichick in Baltimore.
Michael Oher will probably be playing Left Tackle this season for the Ravens, the injury issues for Gaither are too big of a concern. Better to just have Oher at LT than have to move him over when Gaither goes down. Plus, Oher will very soon be the better player, if he isn't there already.
