Could some combination of the Jets impending monetary problems (Revis, Mangold, Harris, Braylon, Santonio, Cromartie, Pool {?}) pull a Lebron? And if so, how many of those players would it require until we are potentially a dominant force for a decade?
As much as peple would say we need to resign Revis, I would say we get Mangold, Harris, wait and see how Holmes, Braylon, and Cromartie do and go from there. To me if Cromartie performs like he can with Wilson on the other side I would be happy with that in Rex's defense.
Cromart is not reliable enough for our defence as a #1 CB, and you can hardly expect Wilson to be able to handle that either.
I hate the idea of NFL players voluntarily taking pay cuts to play on Superbowl contenders. Yes, even if that contender is the Jets.
I'd say in order to be dominant in the AFC East for the next five years, we'd need to lock up Revis, Mangold, Harris, and Santonio. I'm not going as far as to say we'd be SB contenders the next five years if we got those teams, because teams change on a yearly basis, regardless of whether or not they lose people. I'd say if we lock up those above mentioned guys, we're definitely a good chance at locking up the AFC East title for the next 3-5 years.
its a forgone conclusion we need to lock up revis/harris/mangold to be the best team we can. Its also going to be very difficult to win if we can't keep at least one of Edwards/Holmes (preferably the better performer of the two) and likely cromartie as well. In order to keep these guys we need a few of them to accept lesser deals than they could get on the open market. I think its possible, but quite unlikely, especially if Revis is any indication of the way the players care about nothing but money.
