http://patriots.bostonherald.com/patriots/view.bg?articleid=142279 Pats trade Bethel Johnson By Michael Felger Boston Herald Patriots Beat Columnist Monday, June 5, 2006 - Updated: 03:07 PM EST The Patriots today traded disappointing fourth-year receiver Bethel Johnson to the New Orleans Saints for veteran defensive lineman Johnathan Sullivan, the No. 6 overall pick in 2003, according to sources. Like Johnson, the Pats? second-round pick in 2003, Sullivan came into the league with big expectations but never panned out for the Saints. Last year he had 34 tackles and one sack in 14 games. He has just 1.5 sacks for his career. The Saints moved up to select Sullivan (6-foot-3, 315 pounds) in 2003, giving up their two first-rounders to move to the sixth spot. Johnson lived up to his promise as one of the fastest players Bill Belichick has ever coached, but durability and toughness issues dogged him. He had just four catches in 11 games last season.
Good trade, I'd say Sullivan has a little bit more potential than Johnson, he's shown mild flashes of being a #6 pick-deserving player. Who will be your KR now?
Is Watson definitley being thrown into the wide receiver mix now? Because that leaves you with Deion Branch, Troy Brown and Reche Caldwell on the roster.
.... and , um... CHAD JACKSON!! Of all people to leave off a Gator, it's the guy with a Gator sig! Plus, I think we will re-aquire Patten when the Skins dump him.
Shame on you Jonathan how can you forget Chad Jackson. You bring shame to the TGG Gator Nation.
good trade for the Patriots, I think they will be able to do something with Sullivan, Johnson just seems to be too much of a situational player for Bill
when it's washout for washout, the team that gets the bigger washout (physically speaking) is always the winner. Good trade.
Bah, brainfart. I'm not that big of a fan of Jackson anyway. I think Baker will turn out to be a better wideout.
Just what we need man...Belichick getting the potential out of Sullivan and watch him thrive under Belichick...Ugh.
Sullivan at least sounds like he made an effort this offseason, losing 20lbs, down to 315, to start minicamp. Add in the vets on the Pats DL, who want to be known as the best DL in the NFL, will be all over him to succeed. Maybe his former teammate, Seymour, can knock some sense into him. If not, he'll be cut or traded by the end of camp.
This is going to be troublesome for us. Sullivan has all the potential in the world if they can get him motivated.
*** We interrupt this thread for an ass-kissing announcment by Dirtywater... *** See, this is why TGG is great. Yeah we can all voice our opinions, and disagree, but the majority of the regular posters here are real football watching guys (and gals) who can make honest statements, even when it comes to their rivals. Not everything is about homerism., Just pointing out that on most other sites that rival the Pats, you'd simply get the "he sucks and there is no way he could ever be good" just cause the Pats aquired him. Here, at least you get intelligent comments. *** We now return to your current thread, already in progress... ***
I really hope Sullivan fails, but Belichick has a pretty good resume when it comes players that need a change in scenery. Definately a good trade figuring that Johnson is fragile. That's like trading an empty roster spot.
If my count is good that make your whole D-line former 1st round pick, thats what you call building your from the trenches.
