Good list. I ran through it real quick. Schlichter, Leaf, Sims- real disgusting NFL picks. 1982 NFL Draft 1. Kenneth Sims, Patriots- sucked 2. Johnie Cooks, Colts- okay 3. Chip Banks, Browns- alright 4. Art Schlichter, Colts- absolute disgrace 5. Jim McMahon, Bears- good 6. Jeff Bryant, Seahawks- alright 7. Darrin Nelson, Vikings- alright 8. Mike Munchak, Oilers- Hall of Famer 9. Gerald Riggs, Falcons- good 10. Marcus Allen, Raiders- Hall of Famer Mossy Cade- another horrible pick. Chargers took him 6th overall out of Texas in 1984. The cornerback did not play in 1984. Then he played with Green Bay in 1985 and 1986. That was it.
Mike Williams is NOT the biggest draft bust the Bills ever made. At least Fat Mike played a few seasons. These guys were worse: 1. 1979 - Tom Cousineau, LB, Ohio State. He was the first player taken. I don't think he ever played for Buffalo. He held out as a rookie and was then traded to Cleveland, I think, and never amounted to much in the NFL. 2. 1981 - Booker Moore, RB, Penn State. He was the 28th player taken. During training camp, doctors discovered he had some unusual disease. I don't think he played a down for Buffalo or any other NFL team.
Cousineau went to Canada. Three years later he joined the Browns. He played in Cleveland from 1982-85 and then he played with the 49ers from 1986-87. Moore played five games in 1982 after sitting out all of 1981. He played in 46 games with the Bills from 1983-85. He had 420 career rushing yards on 115 carries. He did catch 34 passes in 1983 and 33 passes in 1984. I had his 1984 Topps card at one time.
i cant see the link for some reason but i think mike williams be the 6th?? pick in the draft and turning out like shit is worse than wasting a 28th on one who couldn't play
A good example of "overscouting". He had average 40 speed for a RB but great "game speed", similar to Rice in that way...
Interesting read... and as a Penn State fan - All of our running backs look overrated in JoePa's system (and because of the excellent offensive lines we've had), and that's why there were so many huge Penn State RB busts. Hopefully Larry will continue his NFL success and we'll actually have a good skills player in the NFL.
