This has been bugging me since the departure of Fanaca, and I really don't want this to turn into a Fanaca debate (but it will). So we Ducasse and Slauson, neither of them IMHO are NFL ready, especially Ducasse, With Slauson facing the like of Ngata, Gregg and Lewis to name a few. I am really concerned that this is going to get Sanchez killed. Look at what the Redskins did! If the Ravens get to Slauson and Sanchez early on, it could be a very long night.
I know you never answer a question with a question but I think it works in this case........ Will the Ravens come after Slauson? Does a Wild bear shit in the woods?
If Ducasse was in the Woods they might not shit there. So whats the plan going to be then? I really don't know what options there would be, its not like the FA pool for guards is overflowing.
Extra TE and split backs I'd imagine to help out. I'd imagine Conner getting in to try and smash these guys in the mouth
no, of course not. out of respect and professionalism, the Ravens aren't going to take advantage of one of the Jets weaknesses.
Ducasse was worse than Slauson, he just had too big a jump from UMass to the NFL. He is going to take a year or two. Slauson isn't much worse than Faneca at this point. Remember Faneca was the worst pass blocking LG in the league. I guess the Jets felt like it was better to cut losses and move on. By the looks of it, Slauson looks to be more than an adequate run blocker..... I highly doubt at this point of the season a player picked up off the scrap heap is a good option.......
Exactly. To be fair, I agree Slauson has been stout in run blocking, but in pass coverage, he doesn't look much better than that previous player (oh damn it)
Well according to reports Woody has been looking bad in pass protection as well so maybe that'll even it out. Slauson might be in trouble actually. Assuming they line up Ngata on Mangold more often than not, he may be getting alot of one on ones.
A bit obvious they will go after Slauson. He's the weak link on the OL. And no, no FA two days from the game is going to step in and be better. He's going to have growing pains. The Steelers won a SB with a rookie LG who sucked. The Jets can do it too.
Woody didn't look good in pass pro last year. Slauson has to take his lumps before he will be good, hopefully he can get up to speed quickly.
Im sure they will keep an extra guy back to help out, especially playing the Ravens defense. The first couple of games I would expect a few bumps in the road but Callahan has done a fantastic job with this line and I would think it will be ironed out quickly.
I think that he can do okay, just okay but he needs to make sure he is blocking to the outside on passing plays, it was rediculous how easy he was beat inside Mangolds shoulder and it was basically a sprint to Sanchez
The Ravens will come after Slauson with overloads, stunts, etc, but even when they aren't isn't Ngata going to be lined up in front of him? That's an ugly matchup for the Jets.
Harbaugh would be a fool not to go after the new guy on the OLine. Hopefully we'll be keeping someone in the backfield to help Slauson out.
As long as the Jets can establish the run everything will be fine. Both Greene and Tomlinson can do some damage if they find a hole or Greene breaks a tackle. That should keep the Ravens honest on the overload blitzes. The only thing I'm really worried about here is the offensive coordinator. Schotty is fairly clueless about context and always has been. He could easily read the situation wrong and fail to establish the run and at that point things would get very hairy for Sanchez and the Jets.
