Okay, the debates about our 1st round pick will never end. Who should we take? Should we trade up? Down and stockpile picks? Well, in my honest opinion, with the #4 pick, no matter what we do it will be good for the team. So I am not going to waste my time debating that right now. What I am going to do is try to start up a conversation with who we should take with our 2nd round pick. It is a very early pick so there is plenty of talent still to be got there... Here is my choice: Barring the selection of a QB in the 1st round, Brodie Croyle has GOT to be the pick with our 2nd rounder. I know a lot of people think that he will be available in the 3rd round, but I don't want to chance that. Croyle is first round talent on a better team, hell, even early first round talent in the right system. He is tough as nails and earned every yard he gained this season at Bama. He has a rocket arm and very nice touch. His accuracy could be improved, but that will come to him as he gets familiar with a Pro system and gets used to having some time to throw. His injury history is a concern, but there is no doubt in my mind that what he has suffered already has helped him to build the great character he has already and the toughness he has now. In my opinion this guy is too good to risk missing out on in the 3rd round. I say take him with our 2nd and let him compete for the starting job! Anyone agree? Disagree? Other ideas for a 2nd round pick? Let's hear it!
Well I am one of the guys that wants a QB at #4. I say we take Cutler at #4, Trade Abe to the Broncos for their #29 pick...Draft Marcus McNeil at 29 and with our second rounder draft best available offensive player...whether it be a Guard, Center, WR, TE or RB...draft him...
I don't get how he can be both tough and injury-prone. Regardless, I'd like to see the Jets take a chance on him in the second round (that is, if they don't go QB with their first). I'm not too worried about his injury history (Curtis Martin was also considered injury prone coming out of college, wasn't he?). Hell, even players who weren't injured in college turn up as fragile as glass in the pros (cough, Pennington, cough).
Time to throw? on the Jets? When in TC? Surely you are kidding aren't you? we MUST MUST MUST build an O-line PRIOR to getting the QB or else the new QB will get killed, much as the career of Chad has been killed due to poor O Line play. Sorry guys, I know the QB/RB look inticing but unfortunately we have learned first hand that poor o-line play can and does lead to career threatening, if not career ending injuries.
He has had a history of injuries and that has toughened him up... Playing behind that horrendous OL with no running game made ti so he had to learn to stick in the pocket and take hits. He is tough as nails hanging in the pocket and making throws under pressure..
So say we draft D'Brick in round one... Or we trade down in round 1, draft a RB, and use our acquired pick and our current 3rd rounder on OL... We have the tools to build our OL, even if we draft a QB in round 2..
I am fine with taking D'Brick, putting him at RT, and then going QB in the second with Croyle, though I think that may be a bit of a reach at 35 overall. We can still go O-Line via FA, but we won't find a franchise Q anywhere except the draft. You know what...I am gonna make a bold statement. AS LONG AS THE JETS ADDRESS THE O LINE SOMEWHAT, THE QB SOMEWHAT, AND THE DEFENSE SOMEWHAT, I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY DO IN THE DRAFT!!!
We can get a mad steal in the second round. There are always players who fall into the second round who have first round projections. Players like Portis, Julius Jones, Eric Stienbach, Shuan Cody, etc. We can walk with easily with a starting caliber player in the second round. My favorites are Mangold, Jean-Giles, (I know some of you might not like this but) Moss might be there, if we are lucky maybe Maroney too. Its awesome because you just know someone will be sitting there who is going to help us greatly in round two. I'm not really a fan of Croyle if you guys dont like Pennington because he is fragile, this guy is going to be the same type of QB. He has such a skinny frame if he gets hit hard by a 300 plus pound DT it will probably send him to the injured list every time. He just seems to fragile. He does throw a great ball though.
I think your facts are a bit mixed up brother. If you remember, we actually had one of the best lines in football in 2004.... martin won the rushing title. While I agree that NOW we need healp with the line, it was not their fault CP got hurt. The guy is injury prone, Bottom Line. We need a new line mainly because 3/5's of it are old, overpaid average players. Mawae is good, but he's old, and gets paid tons of money-- about 10 times what our starting LT gets. Don't be afraid to get on Chad a bit- the guy is fragile... and has giant ears.
We can definetely go wrong in the first round, we could draft the next Dewayne Robertson for instance. I think we are going to get some extra picks whether it's trading Abraham or trading down. We need to address the front seven on defense and the front 5 on offense along with a qb and rb after the first round.
if j. addai is still available second round ( i doubt it after how great he has looked at the combine,) you have to take him. Amazing talent. Otherwise i have no contribution here
Gabe Watson has to be the pick here if he is available. If not Gabe, maybe Cromartie or Manny Lawson, if he slips. Gabe Watson is going to be a beast in this league.
Bingo. If we don't get a QB in the 1st round(I hope not). Wait until the 3rd and take best available. I actually prefer Whitehurst to Croyle. He'd be fine by me. And while I continue dreaming - trade down in the 1st and gimme Vernon Davis as a nice safety blanket for whoever is under center next season.
