I dunno folks. Sanchez is in his second year so I suppose we can expect him to look almost like his first season. That is, hurried passes, countless checkdowns and an aversion to pocket pressure. Sounds eerily like Matt Leinart but I don't wanna jinx the kid. Carlson Palmer looks alot more polished and after his season ending injury, damn near fearless in the Pocket. Yeah, Sanchez came out early but I'm not so sure that OJT at the Pro Level is a good thing. Too much money on the line. Too much hanging on a kid that should still be in college. Too much, especially being in the NY Tristate area, for a SoCal kid that although he's stayed out of trouble, hasn't shown the maturity on the field. His mentor could be the issue here as Schotty is his father's son. That is, conservative to a fault. Almost a Paul Hackett clone on some gamedays. What do you guys say..? Is Sanchez a Matt Leinart redux? Is this as good as it gets with this kid? One thing is for certain. It would be a blessing if he outplays his rookie contract. I'd settle for him playing up to his rookie contract. Let the flaming begin...
Dont forget Cassel... who actually somehow had a worse night than Sanches... but eerily similar: 10/22 for 68 yards. However, he did have a TD...
I know I'm stating the obvious but it was his first game of his second season. There are obviously things that need to be corrected, but the issues he had last night are definitely coachable IMO. QB development is frustrating as fuck.
Not to mention we all saw him play much better than this in the playoff's last year. It's pretty hard to have 3 flukey performances in the playoffs.
I try to maintain some kind of even viewpoint about Sanchez, but it's hard to ignore the effusive praise across the board from the QB experts in the media about his upside and ability. Seeing how he performed against the Patriots reminded me of how he played in the Colts game. Focused. If he can improve to the point of having that focus every game, we're a 12-13 win team each year.
Funny how things turn out sometimes isn't it. As of right now, Sanchez really is the best USC QB in the league. Makes you wonder how well he'd do with a Mike Martz as an OC instead of Strange Schotty.
Martz's systems turn the ball over. A lot. He'd probably throw around 30 TDs in that system, but he'd turn it over as well.
