also another thing is the last 2 players san diego said was done (cromartie and LT) are playing lights out for us
becuase SD said LT was done and cut him, they said cro was done and traded him obviously cro and LT have been pivitol players in our early season success.
Jets FO love Jason Taylor. Remember that JT wasn't too complimentary of Mr. Merriman and don't care about bygones being bygones...that is one opinion (JT's) that ain't gonna change and thus he won't be a Jet
In his defense, how isn't it? We have two have their past stars that are playing vital roles for us now. If anyone could bring him back to glory it's Rex. That being said, it's not happening.
i said this in the NFL section, but ill say the shit shit here. Merriman has tweeted multiple times about how much he enjoyed watching the jets on hard knocks, and likes rex ryan.
This reasoning makes sense, Pace didn't practice today and Taylor is in a role he was not signed to play. I doubt JT is pissed about more playing time but he's playing injured and at his age who knows how long he can keep this pace up. With Pace and JT both playing at least hampered it'd be stupid to not at least give him a look.
I didnt think about and the coaching on SD being the reason for their lack of success at the end SD. The way I read the post was that it was just coincidence. Rex does bring out the best in players though I will agree to that.
If we can sign him cheap I don't know why we wouldn't. If I recall correctly he was tweeting about how he liked Rex's coaching style during the off season. He is young and if anyone can get him playing to his best ability it would be Rex.
If it's not going to cost us alot, why not give him a shot Maybe playing in this system will rejuvinate his carreer Just bring him in for pass rushing depth Guys might get injured as the season goes along Him being on the jets says you're wrong
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dave-hollander/shawne-merriman-doesnt-ru_b_514589.html Yea...I'm not too sure about this... Then let's talk business. Antonio Cromartie, Ladainian Tomlinson - two former Chargers teammates of yours with Pro Bowl resumes - recently signed with the New York Jets. When are you headed to New York? Let me tell you something it'd be great to play out there. I'm an East Coast kid. So to be back out on the east coast would be great. I love the San Diego weather and winning, but it'd be great to play on the East Coast.

Probably a retarded question but... Once Merriman is released, will he basically be in the same situation as Pryce where anyone can sign him? Or, is this like the Trent Edwards situation where teams have to put a claim in on him? Anyone know?
Who is the 53rd guy on our roster? He cannot be worse than Gholston. I actually wouldn't mind him on the team for vet minimum.
You can't say for certain this guy is done. He had 17 sacks after he returned the season he was suspended for roids. 17 sacks in 12 games!! Then he followed that up with a 12.5 sack season in 07. He played 1 game in 08...was bad in 09 and has been banged up this yr. So basically he has had one bad season and that was the year after a knee injury. Everyone know it takes two seasons to come back from a knee injury like that. If anything the concern now is can he stay healthy and has his body just broken down from steroid use. The other side of this is pretty much everyone who gets cut these days would love to play for the Jets. I have to say I'm loving this. When is the last time our Jets were thought of as a great destination by the players all around the league. I think by taking on some so called "problem childs" it has just added to our teams stock. I mean Rex is enough to get most guys here but if your a player, you look at this organization and say they won't judge me for what I have done in the past and thats a great thing. The downside to that is that the media as we saw with braylon looks at us as thugs but as long as we have a good mix of character guys in there as well I think we will be alright. As for do I think we should look into merrimen. Hell yeah. Its a a no lose situation. Another star that has fallen off and can be had for nothing. Our pass rush is not the greatest and pressure was merrimen's forte. And we all know he's perfect for a 3-4 outside rusher and if anyone can get something out of this guy it's rex. I'm sure the Jets will do their homework and if they think he's broken down then they move on but if he ends up here I have enough trust in our staff that they must see that the guy has some gas left in the tank. Of course there is the x factor that Woody's late daughter did have a relationship with tila tequila right. Merrimen also had his history with tila. I don't really know the history but someone mentioned that earlier in the thread. That being the case it would be tough to take that on but like I said we do give everyone a clean slate not sure if this hits too close to home though.
when would he play he isnt better then taylor thomas or pace he'd be fourth on the depth chart and get maybe 12-15 plays a game if he is lucky for a malcontent like merriman this will just cause problems, he has a over inflated impression of his self worth, the idiot held out of training camp cuz he wanted the chargers to build there defense around him sure we have taken on some bad cases but all those guys at least were willing to prove themselves, merriman tho still views himself as a top player when in reality he is a backup at best he also doesnt play special teams which makes him a waste when he isnt playing defensive snaps
