Yeah, it makes perfect sense actually. One wonders how our defensive stats would be this season if we gave up the ball 10 more times.
ACTUAL PPG through 6 games: 2009: 13.8 2010: 16.8 In 2009 through the first 6 games we allowed less than 20 pts in all but 1 game and , in 2010 we have allowed 20 or more in 3 of our 6 games.
Those are some tough teams. I think those wins are all HUGE....we're gonna look back at those games 1 day & realize how key they were.
Nacho Code: Year Att Comp Pct Yds Avg TD INT Sck Rate 2009 163 85 52.1 1,035 6.3 5 10 12 56.65 2010 177 98 55.4 1,100 6.2 9 2 9 86.4
No, the PPG for the first six games last season was 17.3. You're counting the Oakland game in Week 7 for your number.
No I'm not, I am usuing actual points allowed not pts scored from Sanchez turnovers. At Houston- didn't allow a point vs. NE- allowed 9 vs. Ten- allowed 17 at NO- allowed 10 pts vs. Miami- allowed 31 vs. Buffalo- allowed 16 That's 83 pts in 6 games for an average of 13.8
It's too early to make a level comparison. At this point last year we just lost Jenkins and the D had to regroup without him, they peaked at the end of the year. This year we lost him the first game but we're just getting Revis back going, hopefully full tilt after the bye. I think overall our personnel is better, it will be interesting to see the finished product late in the season and hopefully in the playoffs. PLAYOFFS??
Think about how many points came from Sanchez's turnovers...... the defense was definitely playing better last year. Edit: looks like someone beat me to it.
So if junc is right then that is a HUGE defensive difference between then and now and explains why we are 21st. or 20th..or 19th...depending on which stats you look at.
The great thing about this year is we are 5-1 and we have so much room for improvement especially defensively. I expect we will get better and better and hopefully peak in Jan/Feb.
Look at you, junc! You've finally dug a little deeper into the stats and found something. I'm proud of you.
I think yardage is such a skewed stat to look at. Tommy you're right we are doing fine the whole reason the defense gave up such little yardage last year was because of the turnovers by Sanchez which would mean less field for other teams to work with, (tougher yardage). This year Sanchez is not turning the ball over as we all know, and teams are gain more yardage because they have more field to work with. All you have to look at is the Points per game against and since we are down I think the D is doing a great job.
But that wasn't the point I was trying to make. We ended up being #1 in the league in PPG and even in YPG by the end of the season despite Sanchez's early turnovers. If we were able to improve last season, there's no reason to believe we can't do it again this season. Last season our defense carried our offense and this season our offense has been able to carry our defense.
No, I know that. I was just saying that right now we are giving up more ppg then we were last year and really in the end that is the most important defensive stat of all. I agree it will get better.
