First of all....my hat goes off to the offense...they took care of business when it counted...and put up the necessary points to come away with a win. Holmes certainly made up for last week (Cotchery...not so much). However, the Jets need to work on some things....because right now....i would say were not a Super Bowl caliber team. -Penalties -miscommunications(muffed snaps, fumbles, throwing behind receivers) -playcalling -penalties -wasting timeouts -penalties -team discipline I don't know what Rex is doing during practice....but these problems need to be taken care of ASAP...after watching Detroit's first TD against us...I wanted to punch a hole in my wall. Enough with the dumb penalties. I believe this is an elite team, and we have the weapons to go deep into the playoffs....but right now, we're not playing up to our potential....and it almost cost us today (and in Denver).
Time to get back to basics for the Jets. Spend a few days this week just working on ball handling and avoiding penalties.
Agree 100% Sanchez also HAS to do a better job of hitting his check down recievers, he missed the check down several times this game, your just giving yards away when you don't hit those. Also, Shotty needs to have a much better game plan for future games, some of the play calls drove me crazy...
win or lose this game we still have a lot of things to iron out. i was preparing a thread as they were about to lose with 4 min left and i still have the same feelings. even if we had been at 5-3 i was confident in this team for the rest of the regular season. the offense would get back on track. the defense is still really good. we'd win enough games to win 10 or 11 and make it. the issue I still have is the offense. at times it looks putrid. this shouldn't happen with the talent on this team. during the playoffs they are capable of putting up a stinker as they did for last week and the first 3 and a half Q's of this week. you just can't have that type of inept offense. i want to see consistency throughout the 2nd half. no more awful offensive games.
The only penalty i saw having a silver lining...was the one Pryce got for folding Hanson's knee in half......Suh missing that extra point was money....and kept us in the game.
Agreed. Those things need to be fixed and fast. Mangini might not be a good coach, but his teams are well disciplined. Browns just beat the Saints and Pats, they feel good. But they haven't played the Jets yet.
I agree with the original post. However, Revis' play was extremely encouraging. Without Burleson on Coleman the Lion Offense didn"t look special. Remember, they averaged 38 points a game at home before today. Our biggest problem: still no turnovers. Last year I would have celebrated the Defense keeping us in this game and been amazed the Offense showed up late to win it. I think the thing that's so hard for all of us is the potential we see in our Offense. Maybe this win will do the trick. Wecan only hope.
Hillis is a beast....we found that out in 2008. Stopping him won't be an easy task. The Jets needs to clean up the penalties, the miscommunications, and play disciplined football to beat the Browns, imo. Mangini has that team rollin'.
I agree with everything you say, I'm glad our QB is pretty money in these situations to bail us out but at the same time I think that its important that we fix these issues because they downgrade our team and while blowouts are fun, eventually if you do stupid shit these things will bite you in the ass
I agree with pretty much everything I've read here. However, we won. So...NO PESSIMISM UNTIL MONDAY!!!!!
I cannot disagree with anything you've written. Detroit is an entirely different team at home though. I had them winning this game. The Jets were LUCKY Detroit committed as many penalties as the themselves, essentially nullifying the Jets' mistakes. However, the Jets will not have the same luck with better teams coming up soon on the schedule. Rex and the guys, get your fucking shit together. I don't care if you have NFL refs at every practice...you guys know what penalties are when you commit them. The diagnosis of a penalty is not the issue. Lack of punishment is the issue. Rex wants to be the coach every player wants to play for and as a consequence he doesn't want to discipline his players in fear of "being disliked".
A win is a win but you're right, there is a ton of stuff to work on before it gets worse. Rex needs to get down to brass tacks and nip this nonsense in the bud now...
I'd really like to see if Rex can transition into SOB mode and kick both units of this team, and its CS in the ass. Being a player's coach don't mean shit if you don't, or won't, kick ass when you need to.
