Half empty: Defense is a shell of what it was last year, no way around it. No pressure on QB by defense, predictable blitzes. Secondary seems to be out of position way too frequently Revis is a shell of what he was last year Several very fortunate wins against several very mediocre at best teams Offensive line seems to get very little push and is not creating space. Even worse it seems like Sanchez is always on the run, even when other teams don't blitz, he seems to always be under pressure. Lot's of bad mistakes this team makes, turnovers, dumb penalties, dropped passes Half full: Finding ways to get it done week after week, showing great poise. Sanchez! Went from lets hope he does not lose us games, to winning games. Offensive weapons galore on this team Bottom line is Jets are 8-2, and have not played anywhere near where I think they can play. If this team can put it all together at the right time, they could be a very scary team. They have had really 1 complete game all year, and that was against Buffalo. I am hoping that they put it all together at the right time!
Revis is not a shell of what he was last year. The past few games he has really stepped up his game. The biggest problem with this team is the red zone offense, and the defense getting zero pass rush leading to big passing plays down the middle.
With the exception of New England they have not beat any playoff caliber teams and if they struggle like this against teams with losing records whats it gonna be like when we play the good teams. We will soon find out startin in December!
LOL how is Revis a shell of his former self?? Andre Johnson today: 4 catches 32 yards. His line in the game last year vs us? 4 catches 35 yards
The defense isn't a shell of what it was last year. It's main problem is the same thing that it was last year. Last year the Jets had trouble closing out games and allowed that one last drive. Same thing this year. Stats other than points per game mean jack shit. I am cool with this defense being worse statistically if they can stop that big drive in the last few minutes of a game. They just haven't done that lately..........
let me address the bottom line first. couldn't agree more. the rest is touch and go for me. i'm not one to pick apart posts line by line and such, but i'd hesitate to call a defense ranked in the top of the league a shell of its former self. I get where you're heading, and i agree there too. I just think its a bit of overreaction, or perhaps exaggeration, on your part. as for revis, i think you are expecting something that can't be expected. revis is revis. he's back. last year's revis- that shit was a gift. enjoy it. seasons like that are rare.
Why are Jets fans so negative? The team is 8-2! The best record after 10 games in my LIFETIME! haha. The defense is really good. Pretty much the same as last year's i'd say, just teams know it better now. Being 5-5 you can talk about half empty/half full, at 8-2 its mostly full. People keep forgetting the team has not played a perfect game yet. If the offense plays like it can, defense plays like it can, special teams plays like it can, the Jets are unbeatable.
Revis was hurt, now hes healthy and in the last 3 weeks hes shutdown 2 of the best recievers in football. Revis and Cromartie have been great, nobody else in the secondary can cover anyone. Combine with not much of a pass rush and our other corners and safeties are getting picked on.
On defense, I dislike the poor communication and pass rush (or lack thereof). On offense the running game hasn't been great of late but the passing game has been incredible so it works out.
I'm excited, but a bit cynical. We're making games a lot closer than they should be, and that worries me. We haven't beaten a team with a winning record since the Pats.
I have been through 40 + yrs of Jets Football. I will happily enjoy being 8-2 and I advise everybody else to do the same.
1. We have a pathetic pass rush. We can't close out games because when teams go into full desperate passing mode we can't stop them. Our lack of front four pass rush is also hurting our blitz. 2. Our running game is just not dominating. Another reason we cannot close out games. Sanchez is no longer the liability he was last year but now the running game we saw with Shonn Greene in the playoffs is absent. These two weaknesses have to be fixed before we entered the playoffs because they are key to winning playoff games.
I see the run game isn't working. If Greene doesn't fumble, the Jets were smacking the Texans in the mouth. Sorry but the Jets were doing fine. Up until that fumble, the Texans had one foot in the grave.
This playing "good teams" or "bad teams" stuff doesn't fly this year. This is the most parity I have seen in the NFL since I started following the Jets in 1973. Any team can beat any other team on any day this year. I agree with some of the listed concerns but to have an 8-2 record at this point of the season in the NFL this year is just amazing.
Revis was not on AJ all game. He was burnt badly on a deep ball that was dropped, would have been a TD. Also was burnt several times on other plays..
I am really not trying to be negative at all. I am ecstatic they won today, and even more ecstatic they are 8-2. I have been a die hard Jets fan since 1978, I want to see a SB championship. I think this team COULD do it, I just don't think they are at that level right now. Part of my point was that they are 8-2 and have not played anywhere near where I think they can play.
totally agree. these wins have been fun and inspiring, but they won't cut it in Pittsburg or NE. If we don't get the run and defense back on track we'll be in trouble
He was on Johnson most of the day. He broke up a couple of passes intended for AJ, including a jump ball in the end zone. He got beat badly by Walter. The only other play that I remember him being beat was that pass where Schaub rolled out and had all day and I think they were playing zone and Revis was focusing on Schaub and there was no safety help over the top when there probably should have been.
