I didn't watch the entire game (stopped watching after the Sanchez INT in the red zone) but seriously, how did they do so poorly on both Offense and Defense? What happened to this supposedly vaunted Pass D? How did we only score 3 points against a normally shitty Pats D?
Honestly, this has been coming. We have all been excited from some close, last minute wins,vs some bad teams. Most forgot the Bad team part. You don't get to play the Lions indoors in the playoffs. So unless you can beat NE,PITT and teams like that, rack up all the garbage wins you want and be 9-3 and think you are world beaters. Not the case
Week 1 served as somewhat of a wake up call for the Jets. I hope this is a reminder of that wake up call, and the fact that your riding high doesn't mean you can't be shot down and totally obliterated at a moments notice.
I sort of expected to lose this game, but there's no way in hell we had a blowout coming. How could anyone have predicted that this team would lose by a score like that? Hell, even the 2007 Patriots only beat us by 10 in Foxborough.
Look...lets be honest it all boils down to two things. 1.Danny Woodhead. 2. Overconfidence. Woodhead was here for two years. When he left he took alot of intellectual property with him. This team was way too confident that they are good enough to overcome the fact that the opponent knows everything you're going to do before you do it. Spygate? That Pales in comparison.
I'll throw in my 2 cents. I think the Jets ran into a "Perfect Storm" type of scenario. Forgetting the miscues and drops on the Jets side the Pats were really ready for this game 1. The 11 day wait between games. People have been saying that Belichick is great after the bye for so long it's lost it's potency but Belichick is considered a football savant for a reason. He is one of the best around at breaking down film and determining games plans. It showed last night. 2. In previous years Brady and Belichick used to sit down and go through the offensive game plan. He hasn't done it much this because he's been concentrating on the defense but again the long pause between games allowed Belichick and Brady to sit down for a few hours and allowed Belichick to work with Brady on what he might expect from the Jets. I think that really helped Brady alot because the Jets are a pretty talented and sophisticated defense and that talk helped Brady prepare more then usual 3. I think the Patriot defense was pissed. They've been getting ragged on all season and their poor stats have been thrown in their face for so long they wanted to put together a complete game. I think they did a hell of a job last night. 4. Losing Leonard this week hurt the Jets. Not only is he a lynchpin for the Jets defense losing him so late in the week didn't give the Jets time to compensate. 5. The Patriot offense is much more diverse now. I was worried when Moss was let go but it's clear now that the Patriot offense is harder to defend. Welker, Branch and Woodhead are pretty smart quick players and that's hard to defend. The TE's including Crumpler really are a big help. 6. Brady is driven this year. He's taken it upon himself to push the offense. He may seem like a-hole to fans but I think it's working. He's playing as well as I've seen him play, including 2007 7. The offense line is playing real well. They were doing pretty well before Mankins came back and he's just taking them to the next level. I hope they can re-sign him despite the bad blood.
I can tell you what happened... SOJ!!! Soft schedule through 11 weeks, haven't beaten a team that will make the playoffs, and our team plays scared in big games...
1. Hugely underrated Patriots defense. Young, fast, big hitters, and starting to play smarter 2. Sanchez: I don't know if it was the weather or if the defense was confusing him - probably a little of both - but he was not up to the task at all 3. Patriots protection scheme. Brady hasn't faced any pressure for a month now. Return of Mankins was key, and having 2 or 3 TE's out there at there at once gives Brady options on every play. 4. I don't think the Jets came out flat, but they kept making mistakes all around: coach, WR's, QB, DB's. The only time they seemed to get untracked, Sanchez throws a red zone INT. 5. Branch and Welker, when healthy, are a very tough combo to cover. Press corners can't really get a lick on them, they're too quick, they run laterally, they start and stop. Letting Moss go and getting Branch was the difference in this season for NE.
maybe you should consider this, Jets had him for two years and he is nothing. Pats get him and in two weeks, he's a star performer. And, if I'm not mistaken, didn't the Jets work out Shawn Crable (been with the Pats for three years) a few weeks ago? They also signed a former Dolphin RB, Turner, just before the Dolphins game.
