I have been a die hard bleed green Jets fan since 79. Season ticket holder for most of those years. After seeing the Red Sox win 2 WS titles in a few year span, I don't believe in curses, hex's or any other BS. I believe you win when you are good enough, PERIOD! The SOJ is a result of one thing, and one thing only, INEPTITUDE! The franchise for the most part has been inept. Inept in hiring coaches, and inept in it's personnel decisions. Anyone who gets caught up in this SOJ fan BS is ridiculous. Lets face the facts, lets try to forget about SOJ or dark sider or any of that. The Jets are 9-4, are 2-4 against teams with a winning record, and have been playing bad football for about 7 weeks now. They won a stretch of games that you just could not be more fortunate in, against piss poor teams. SOJ is nonsense. The team is just not that fkng good! Their OC is severely lacking. The team is undisciplined as all hell. They have WR that run the wrong route all the time, and drop a TON of passes. They have a young QB, who they are destroying. They are just not a very good team. They are an average to slightly above average team. I don't want to hear this stupid I am a SOJ fan, or a dark sider. I am a realist, I watch the FKNG games, I know what I see. Let's also be clear that they can still pull their collective asses out of their heads. They are 9-4 and have the playoffs in front of them, and as we saw last year anything can happen in the playoffs. But, whatever happens, it will not be because of SOJ, or SOJ being dead, it will be because they are either good enough, or their not!
I still think we will go either 10-6 or 11-5 and make it in. maybe win a game in the playoffs. But it is all pointless because the road will run through NE and any team in the AFC can just forget about winning that game.
I don't believe in SOJ, I don't think a collapse from '86 or '00 plays a role w/ this team. i just think we were not as good as we thought we were. We have a loudmoth HC who makes us believe but it's a bad sign when yopu lose 45-3 in one of the biggest reg season games in our history.
I was thinking the same thing. I just don't think the jets are that good. I definitely do not think they are a championshop calibur team. We are 9-4, with last minute wins against mediocre teams. With the steelers and bears coming up on our schedule, I would not be surprised to lose both of them. We could not score a TD against miami, how do you expect it to be against the steelers and the bears? And honestly, I don't put the bills game on lock either, they've gotten better as the season has gone on. They gave the steelers a run for their money, and would have won that game if not for stevie johnson dropping that pass in the endzone. I blame all parts of the team, the players, coaches, and front office. Don't be surprised if you hear a lot of talk about the jets being frauds this week. We will continue to hear it until we beat a good team.
Rex's brash talk will get old and quickly go from talking the team up to hot air even though that's his personality and no matter how good the team is each year that's how he's going to be. If anyone paid attention, this team never had the pass rush or the offensive consistency to be a super bowl contender, but they certainly are a playoff team. They are better than 80% of the other AFC teams in the conference and deserve the wild card spot. I predicted them to lose last week, this week, and next week before winning out to go 11-5. I'm well prepared for this shitty run of games. Its called parity. Seeing past your favorite team and seeing the whole landscape of the league takes some discipline. The Jets play the Steelers tough, but always come up short. Don't be shocked if they lose, but hopefully they'll play well enough to prove that they can take on Chicago at home.
Yeah, this. The Jets have not played anywhere near their so called "potential" all year with the possible exception of the first NE game. Those close games they pulled out at the last minute really masked just how badly they have been playing. I hope we make the playoffs to avoid any further embarrassment but realistically, either way any hopes of a strong playoff run are gone.
only to fools. Dark siders never think this team will ever amount to anything in any given year. Realists root for the team but aren't shocked when they don't play well and keep a level head. There are a lot of people who think they are realists on this board but are dark siders. There are a lot of SOJF on this board who are just fucking retarded.
Honestly I this is what I thought from the season. Finish 11-5 or 10-6 make the playoffs and have a good run (Again). I would love more than that but it's what I was planning on. I also think, next year is the year (If there is one) but that does not mean I'm giving up on this one.
this team has the "potential" to be one of the best in football. the problem, is collectively it's only been done a handful of times in games, and there's a giant lack of consistency. why are the falcons 11-2? They're not necessarily the most talented team in the league. They have talent, but i think there are more talented teams. however, they are incredibly consistent. something we lack. you never see that team have total meltdowns like we do. I think the falcons are overrated and will lose to the eagles or saints, but consistency still gets you pretty far. I think "we're not good enough" is a relative term. We don't *play* good enough, but as far as talent level, we're as good as anyone in the league. Unfortunately talent doesn't always relate to production
I'd like to believe that. But the flip side of that point, if it is true, is that the most obvious explanation for lopsided losses with teams that have a high level of talent is they were not coached well. Frankly I think the last two losses, and really the mediocre play in wins against weak opponents before that, is a combination of not quite so much talent as we would like to believe and a somehow in some ways ineffective coaching staff.
Some people on this board seem to think that realist and darksider are the same thing. Bottom line is, this team isn't playing up to it's potential.
They can get there collected a$$es in gear but OTH they can go take the track to dumps & lose out like 86 right? :jets:
I guess for me, I'm curious (and this is neither to attack you, nor really directed only at you, though I hope you answer): How do you remain confident after the last 4-5 weeks. We eeked out wins, and then got our asses handed to us (granted by a team that is now, please kill me, looking like the best team in football), then lose to a really shitty team. I get tired of the insults that people have, I don't think Jets fans root for losses or hope we will blow it. But for some (and I can speak only for myself) after sitting there watching that game, my confidence and belief in the team is fucking shattered. It's a pretty hard feeling to deal with as a fan(atic). So yeah, how do you look at our line, our offensive playcalling, a young QB who once again looks like his confidence is blown, a HC who makes some really bad (at times) in game coaching decisions, an absent pass rush, and LB's who seem to continue to struggle in pass protection (not focused on yesterday, just in general).
I feel the same. Whether there is a difference between realism and pessimism is an interesting and real question, but I can't figure the pov of people who get violently upset by other Jet fans who express skepticism about the team. Any one watching the game can see there are lots of problems right now. If some who had hoped the team had turned the corner and were heading to the SB now seem down about the team's fortunes, why other Jet fans would resort to name calling and antipathetic blasts is beyond me.
You make a lot of sense. I guess I feel that way, because your post represents pretty much the way I feel about it. I always hope for the best, root for my team, and enjoy each play of each game for what it is. I don't expect failure, but I am fully prepared that it can happen. Over the course of my fandom, I have learned not to let my expectations run away from me, or to let myself get too high or too low, as each game unfolds. Repeated batterings and bruisings will do that to a person. You know the history. No need to repeat it here, but I will say that I've lived through each and every one of those failures since SBIII, sometimes with my hopes and expectations fully invested in a positive outcome. But, to be fair, there have been successes, too. Sometimes they weren't entirely deserved, much like some of the losses. It's just that the sting of the losses sometimes stays with us longer than the glow of the wins. Sort of like dating. One difference between us is that I do like to dabble in SOJ sourcery - purely for fun of course. I just think it's more interesting to blame the team's failures on the supernatural, rather than the stark realism of parity or ineptitude. Excuse me while I go worship the nearest eclipse! :jets:
