on the plus side, Wayne Hunter is looking like a beast. With the way he's been playing, is he an upgrade over Woody at this point? Woody's been getting kinda slow...
i would trade all of this year's draft picks right now if it would bring Danny Woodhead back. Except no team would do that. Because he now is rightly evaluated as worth more than all of them combined.
Ducasse played tackle in college, they were hoping he could win the LG spot but he didn't and it ended up working out cus Slauson has played well this season. He also played for a BCS subdivision school so I can def. understand why he's not NFL ready. Conner would be starting if Richardson wasn't here but he's been a solid player for us on special teams, and our ST unit is very good in covering kicks. A fifth round pick for a contributor on special teams isn't a bad pick imo. Most 5th rounders end up flaming out. McKnight will get better with time not so much because he's "so bad" now but he'll get more opportunities in the future. Idk what the future for LT holds here in NY, he's slowing down a lot recently and it was really evident in the Bears game.
People need to get over Woodhead. If Woodhead was here he would be doing the same thing as McKnight, sitting on the bench. Hes only playing in Ne cuz Faulk got hurt. Does it suck seeing him doing so well with the Pats, yeah. But, the Jets deserve no criticisim for cutting him.
a certain coach from the northeast does that, and he gets killed for it .. don't know if you want to got that route ..
They wanted him to win it ahead of Slauson, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing he didn't. His natural position is at tackle and Damien Woody is getting older. I don't see what the problem is with Turner and Hunter being activated over Ducasse. Hunter's done an OK job filling for Woody the last couple weeks and they're both experienced. I'm not saying he's gonna be an all pro at tackle, but I think it's too early to write him off. Maybe he'll suck who knows. He was a 2nd round pick, I'm sure they have a plan for him.
Poor choice of words...I'm sure you knew what I meant but thanks He gets killed because he's missed on a lot of picks. Hate to admit but you guys really nailed this past draft.
This upcoming one is the big one I hope .. they hold carolina's 2nd, which will be the first pick the following day ... I don't see them holding on to that one .. someone will give up the farm for that pick ..
The Packers drafted Quinn Johnson in 2009's fifth round. The Ravens drafted Le'Ron McClain in 2007's fourth round. *They also drafted Ovie Mughelli 2003's fourth round. All three of these players backed up players to start their careers. McClain backed up Musa Smith at the beginning of the year and took over pretty early on. I looked up his stats from 2007 and it looks like he started 11 games. *McClain was drafted to replace Mughelli. Mughelli backed up Alan Ricard and played mostly special teams during his first two years in the league. Quinn Johnson still backs up Korey Hall. How is it a strange pick? Tony Richardson is done after this season. John Conner gets a full season to learn behind one of the best lead blockers to ever put on a uniform. Conner plays an under-valued position and in my opinion, that's why people don't understand that pick. In a limited role, he's made a lot of great blocks. I look forward to seeing him as a starter. I disagree. Don't get me wrong: I hate the lack of production from all of our picks, but what are you expecting from them? We're talking about a mid-major corner, a I-AA guard, and an incredible athlete that's had it easy for his entire sports career. Kyle Wilson Kyle Wilson has the tools and the talent to start in this league, but he's obviously not good enough to start over Revis or Cromartie. Everyone always bitches about him not being able to beat out Drew Coleman. Coleman's having a pretty good year the last time I checked. Coleman's more experienced and he knows how to play inside the numbers. Kyle Wilson has to learn how to play nickel and dime back. He's a liability at those positions right now, because he's still learning. Vlad the Impaler I don't understand why people are upset that he's not contributing. A guard who's been Bill Callahan's offense for over six years beat out a kid that played tackle in the FCS. Who didn't expect that to happen? We don't know what we have in Ducasse. He's a raw player that may or may not be our future at right tackle. Joe McKnight You guys should really read about this kid's past. His house was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Instead of relocating, his family lived in a one bedroom apartment so he could play football at a certain school. McKnight was named the "Male High School Athlete of the Decade" ...not the year, the decade. That's how dominant he was at the high school level. This game was always easy for him before he got to the NFL. This is the first time he has to rely on things other than pure athleticism and speed. He has to become a football player and not an athlete. If he gets his mind right, he'll be a special player. I guarantee that. Matt Slauson wasn't handed anything. I think his play this year proves that. Tomlinson is a much better all-around back: pass pro and receiving are the two main reasons he's ahead of Shonn Greene. Greene isn't a feature back like LT. In an evolving league, LT is a dying breed. This is a RBBC league now and Tomlinson's one of the last guys that did it on his own for most of his career. Everybody on this site knows that I'd like to more picks and longer mock drafts. John Conner is the perfect player for our offense. Vladimir Ducasse could be the future at right tackle. Joe McKnight is a head-case with first round talent. Kyle Wilson has all of the ability to play nickel. He just needs to catch up with the speed of this game.
I'm disappointed in Wilson in the fact that he can't seem to get on the field much right now, but playing CB as a rookie is tough, regardless of what many may think due to the success of McCourty in NE. Anyone who thought Ducasse, McKnight, or Conner were going to produce right away were either extremely optimistic or extremely unrealistic. Conner is behind one of the greatest fullbacks of all time on the depth chart who is also an emotional leader of this team. He was not going to start right away, fact. McKnight is behind Greene and Tomlinson, two backs that, unless injured, were not going to allow McKnight to gain much PT anyway even if he had success in training camp. Ducasse's only real opportunity to play was to beat out Slauson for guard, a position that Ducasse had to learn in training camp, ON TOP OF him having to adjust to a much higher level of talent in the NFL. He's got the physical tools to be very good, but he needs time. It's way to early to proclaim this past draft as a "failure" or "bust" because these guys aren't producing in their rookie seasons on a top-tier team with loads of talent. Ask this question in two or three years and you can have a subjective answer.
Wilson was screwed by Revis' holdout. I believe our defense would be much better if he had worked all preseason in the slot rather than having to be our #2 CB. Clearly the experience rocked his confidence. The Jets have been using the FB only 20 times a game with all their 3 and 4 WR sets and use of Turner as an extra lineman. As a result, Conner must wait for a great FB to give way down the line. I'm not complaining that Shotty is defaulting to T-Rich. Vlad was a reach, but he could be (although I wish we waited). None of us realized just how much confidence the Jets had in Slauson, and he has proven them right. Hell, Hunter hasn't looked bad either. Vlad just needs to be ready when D Wood retires. I've been happy to see McKnight getting some touches, and I think we'll be glad he is in the weeks to come. His speed could be a real asset. Please don't say he wasn't a project. They wouldn't have called Sanchez during the draft if they thought he was a sure thing. Sorry guys, but I think we'll replace LT before a lot of you think. LT hasn't gotten it done for weeks (longer). While he is an asset in the passing game, he hasn't done much running out of the backfield. BUT issue was not our draft. Remember we had the final eight rule to deal with this off season. When Jason Taylor is your big FA pick-up in the off season, you're in trouble.
Loaded, did you say? I think a lot of people from last draft will remember me harping over for not drafting a DL. Let's see; I'd say Terrence Cody could have made an immediate impact on this 'LOADED' team if at all. (And we had a shot at him too.) Jared Odrick could have been the replacement for Ellis, whose age is getting up there as well. OLB is still in dire need of replacement as we speak. While I didn't complain about the picks then, I didn't think the needs were filled, and it is showing these days.
Our rookie class hasn't been in the league long enough to judge it. Most people who know how this sport works would know that already.
Thanks! I just can't stand when people get all over players proclaiming they suck, their a bust, that are early on in their NFL development, especially when their not even starting! It's the same thing with Sanchez. People have to realize, he's a second year QB playing arguably the hardest position in all of sports. This isn't college anymore where mere physical attributes can, mostly, pave the way to considerable success. These are the big boys and everyone out there is just as fast, or strong, or physically gifted as you are (relatively speaking). It just takes some, no, MOST guys a little longer than hmm a mere 15 NFL games, hell even 2 seasons to get their head straight and be physically AND mentally ready to contribute in the NFL.
Ducasse wasn't a reach. I remember Mayock saying that almost every team he talked had him going in the second round. He has a higher upside than most of the lineman selected in 2010.
Not really. You can't tell for sure for a few years but your ability to judge/predict it increases over time, and in a salary cap world where you only have the guys for four years rookie contributions matter.
I agree with you guys in that saying bust or stud is preemptive at this point. However, no one wants to blame the Front Office for allowing a trip to the AFC Championship game put a veil over the deficiencies this team had/has. Instead they were comfortable with the personnel and felt they were in EXCELLENT shape to take on project picks. I just feel the Front Office was negligent here because this team will need a lot of help in the playoffs from personnel they simply don't have. The Kyle Wilson pick gets a pass in my book because not only did he fill a need designated by the team, he was probably close to BPA on the board, certainly BPA in terms of CBs. The other two are head scratchers.
I think McKnight will be fine, the few plays he has run I liked what I seen. Even though it wasnt productive. We will see.
