I hope none, unless we are down with 40 seconds to go on the Colts 5 yard line would be the only time we should go for it on 4th down, the way Rex blitzes, the last thing we need is to give Manning a short field, make them go the length of the field at all times. I also hope if we do get them in 3 and long that we don't send the house every time. Hopefully we'll play some zone with 2 deep coverage and force Manning to make the perfect play.
ball control is nice but scoring is better. The Colts aren't putting up 40pts a game this year so the Jets offense has to by dynamic. Play action, misdirection, challenge them deep...the Colts are fast so you need to use their speed against them. The Jets should be able to handle the Colts D Line and open up running lanes. Last year Greene looked like he was about to have a huge second half until he got hurt early. Expect Greene to be looking for some revenge and run very angry.
This year his multiple INT games were directly related to the offensive line crumpling like paper as soon as the ball was snapped. There are definitely other things AFC teams have done though that have confused Manning at times, not to mention guys not being on the same page and running the wrong routes. I really think the Jets will need to get some kind of pass rush going to keep Manning at bay.
Greene tore the Colts apart last year in the AFCCG before he got hurt. I hope they pound the shit out of them with Greene.
And so do the Colts. Therein lies the problem. They have shut down some VERY good RB's lately, because those were run oriented teams and they schemed against the run. It worked. McFadden, MJD, then Chris Johnson. I want a heavy dose of Greene too, but AFTER we hit some short passes over the middle to Holmes and Keller. Get those LB's back off the line, make them have to worry about dropping into coverage. Then when the safeties come up to defend the middle, burn these "off the street" CB's the Colts have. The weakness, and it's a HUGE one, is the Colts' D backfield. If we are too timid to attack with WR's the likes of Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery and our TE, you want to know what that is? It's Herman Edwards play not to lose strategy. Fuck that. We aren't going to a Super Bowl unless Sanchez can attack a team, a team with a decimated D backfield. Shit, if we can't or are too afraid to pass the fuckin ball, what's the point? Go out there, get that Colts defense reeling, on their heels then pound the shit out of them with the run. If Sanchez isn't ready for that, then the Jets aren't ready to make a Super Bowl run.
If we start out in no huddle like we did against the Pats, I'm going to put my foot through the TV. Run the ball. Set up play action. Score more points. Win.
YES ... The fact is, in 5 of their 6 losses, the Colts gave up 30 points or more. That's the only way to beat them. This ground and pound ... keep Peyton on the sidelines and foolishly hope that we'll shut them down is exactly the kind of thinking that will get us beat. I hope Rex finally accepts the fact that his defenses don't fool Peyton Manning, and he better score a bunch of points if he wants to beat him. We need to score early, score in the middle and score late. We have the weapons to put up points on their defense, and we need to use all of them.
