http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4691534/podcast-pats-vs-jets-part-iii In another thread someone recommended this podcast. Bruschi picks the Pats of course, but sheds some good light on the rivalry and breaking down the game.
I couldn't stand Bruschi as a player, but I've always respected his football insight as an announcer. He's also right on the money with these comments. All you have to do, is go back to our oppening drive against the Patriots last month, and just like Bruschi stated; you'll see the Jets never came into Foxboro playing Jets football. The Ravens came into Foxboro during the playoffs last year, they played Ravens football, and they beat the living hell out of NE. The same can be done by our Jets this Sunday. We must come into Foxboro playing Jets football though. We're built to beat this Patriots team. We have an explosive L.T, who's about to put his life on the line; #21 has a deep hatred for NE. We have a back, in Shonn Greene, who's built for these types of playoff games during December/January and we also have an offensive line that cant be stopped. NE doesn't have a CB on that roster, that can even do so much as contain Braylon Edwards. If Sanchez can slow the game down, we'll put up 30+ on this NE D.
Agree with most of this when Jets on offence, but don't dismiss McCourty. He's played really well this year. They also have the best coach in the league.
Know why Tomlinson has such a deep hatred of NE? Because he has a long streak of playoff failure against them. Go with Greene.
Agreed... thank god there are some analysts that know how to do their job... when I listen to Dungy and Harrison I want to rip my balls off. That said yeah we'll have to live off the run and the play action... but let's not forget running on the Pats isn't as easy as running on the Colts. Hopefully Spikes isn't 100%...
The Colts were actually playing stout against the run heading into the playoffs, & lets not forget, this NE run D is nothing to gloat over. In other words; it's nothing like a Ravens/Steelers type of run D. I'll be shocked if we don't rush for over 150 yards on Sunday. The key matchup for our ground & pound is Mangold vs Wilfork. Huge advantage for the Jets. Wilfork used to be great, he's still really good, but he's had to put up with alot of wear and tear on his body over the years. Mangold? He's in his prime, & in the eyes of many; he's the best center in football for a reason. It's no secret that Wilfork has considered Mangold the toughest center in the league for years now. Honestly, BB & the Pats D can not afford to sell out against the run, because if Sanchez can slow the game down; we'll have way too many weapons that can take over the game in Edwards, Holmes, Keller, Cotchery & L.T.
He mention on sportscenter that dustin keller has to step up... He is the key to establishing the dominance in the middle of the field...
too funny. the jets are not built to put up 30+ using the run game. homerism is getting the best of you. if the jets win this game it will be a low scoring defensive game. if it gets to the 30's in scoring, it will be the gaytriots winning the game. the jets are a ground and pound and play tough defense style team. if they try to play the pats style, they'll lose.
your optimism is great, but your smoking some really good sh*t to actually believe any of the smoke you're blowing out your arse! wilfork is in his prime and playing like a beast. mangold looked like crap in the monday night game, but he was hurt somewhat with a bad shoulder. HUGE ADVANTAGE, lol you have no idea what you're talking about. it's alright being a total jets homer, just stay off the message boards, you're making a fool of yourself with what little you know about football.
As far as I'm concerned, you can make an argument for a lot of them. Patrick Willis, Jerod Mayo, David, Harris, etc.
I heard this on 1050 during the drive home. In all honesty, Bruschi was great. Pretty reasonable breakdown of the game. Just an all around good interview.
I'm not here to call out and argue with strangers over the internet, but I'm sorry to say, but there is nothing homerish about feeling the Jets can put up 30 points against this Patriots defense. The days of Patriot D's stacked with players such as Milloy, Law, Samuel, McGinest, Bruschi, Vrabel and Seymour, just to name a few; are long gone. That could be a key reason why the Patriots defense allowed at least 24 points scored against 8 out of 16 games this season. One being to the Jets, where we put up 28, without Holmes. Saying that if the Jets score 30 offensive points, "they'll lose the game", is beyond stupid. When the Jets score points, it's up to our defense to either keep Brady and the Pats offense off the board, or hold them to FG attempts. Your acting like if the Jets score; it's a given that Brady will just march down the field and match us with a score. You couldn't be more wrong. We just held Indy to only 16 points for only the 2nd time since 2008. It wont be easy to score TD's on our D.
I also agree with everyone making comments about Bruschi being a really good announcer. I've enjoyed this guys insight since day one of his announcing career. Bruschi was one of the only "experts" who believed in the Jets as they were heading into the playoffs lasy year. He knew we could make a serious run in the playoffs. All he ever talked about is how the Jets were built for playoff football during December and January. Thats because we were strong in the trenches, had a strong offensive line, had a powerful rushing attack, and had the best defense in the league. The same goes for this years Jets team. We're built to do damage during the playoffs. I've always been a big believer in the old football cliche; 'defense wins championships', and 'games have always been won in the trenches'. The Jets are built to beat the Pats on Sunday. We're much better in the trenches (on both sides of the ball), we have one of the better rushing attacks around, and our defense, is without question, the better unit.
In a game for HOME FIELD advantage and for the WHOLE NFL and America to see the Jets actually back up their tireless jargon, why did the Jets drop an egg 5 weeks ago on MNF and just get whopped in every single phase of the game. Offense, Defense, Special Teams all took a beating. And too funny, after Rex is a two year old all the time leading up that Jets are better and the Pats play 60 minutes of football. Rex is upset the pats didn't lie down and let Jet's get a few easy calls but NE wasn't allowed to sign High School Players to play in their place. Why with so much on the line, HF, First Place, Bragging Rights and just not looking like a total bunch of fools after all the bragging PRIOR to the game. Why Rex is expecting to lose for he is trying to make this a game of coaches versus a game played on the field. Rex knows if he makes his team look like fools losing after a very good season the players aren't gonna like looking like fools again. You had a great year, win or lose abut it won't look that way if you lose. The best don't need to brag, they bring it on the field, on the court. Love the footpixes stuff too, too funny with Rex talking too!
Last I checked, Wilfork was an All Pro, Mayo an all pro and the top tackler in the league. Pats other DL are on IR for the year such as Ty Warren who can hold his own to anyone. McCourty is a stud and all the other rookie linebackers are doing well. 22 new players when we played you early and Moss gave up two interceptions and Welker had a knee brace and at around 32 percent. BB has since taught the large cast of rookies or last year rookies who were on IR the whole year. Heck we have a few more good players in Endeleman, Price AND 6 draft picks in the first 53 pics this year so Pats can build more leaders. McCourty will be the man and the island,
