Good luck to Faneca. He did a great jb while he was here.

And kudos to Mike Tannebaum for getting rid of a player on the decline one year early instead of a year too late!

yep because this up coming year we would likely be playing an unknown or Slauson with little to no experience at his guard spot.

    Good career by Faneca though!

I appreciate what Alan did for us and specifically for Mangold and Brick. He was a great guard in this league for many years and he was very valuable to our C and LT as well as the rest of our team.

Great job by the FO and coaches to release him, I was wrong a year ago(see I can admit it). My fear was Slauson/Ducasse wouldn't be ready but Slauson played fairly well. Hopefully this years gamble of releasing Woody will work out just as well.

I admit I thought we unloaded him a little too soon when I heard the news last year. I was concerned it would mess things up with Mangold since they were good friends. However, after 1 year with the Cards and he's now retiring, looks like the FO absolutely made the right call.

    Here's the article.

In it, it says Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Faneca made the decision recently after deciding to prioritize time with his family over playing football.

I always thought Faneca was huge with D'Brickashaw. Pete Kendall played LG when Ferguson got drafted in '06, and Ferguson had a decent year for a rookie. But Kendall left and Ferguson struggled in '07, so Faneca coming in in '08 was critical to Ferguson's development.

Thanks Alan, congrats on a stellar career.

I'm a big fan of Faneca's work, and the job he did for the Jets.
Solid addition for the Jets, even if it was just for the short term.

Good luck to post football Faneca..

He should be considered for HOF. In his prime he was a beast, and was good for us during his time here. He has a ring, and several All-Pro selections, great career.

Just heard him on serius before.Said he would have loved to finish his career with the Steelers,I suppose like any probowler who had been with a team for nearly a decade would.Said there was a certain special somethin that went along with playin in Pitt.Didnt stay tuned in to see if he mentioned anything positive about his time with the Jets but im sure he enjoyed it.
