dbatesman, I hear where you're coming from, but I still disagree. I don't think it was a lack of homework, it was just doomed by a corporation that refused to give up its monopoly. MSG is getting a new house. They are moving it across the street in a couple years. Interestingly, the news was a tiny little blurb, not long after the Jets signed on the dotted line with the Giants. Sound fishy? I think so. Believe me, I wanted the Jets in NY. I have lived in Queens my whole life. Hell, I could see Shea Stadium if I walked down the block from where I grew up. A stadium in Flushing Meadow would have been a dream to me. The thing is, Woody had to do what was best financially for the team. 800 million is a lot of money to dump into a stadium. The reason it made sense downtown was that it could be used for other events. It would have been partnered with the Javits Center. Things like the car show would have had dual venues. This made good financial sense, and would have recouped the cash Woody put into the stadium. That would not have happened in Queens. It would have only been Jets Stadium, and nothing more. The only way Queens would have made good financial sense would have been to share a new park with the Mets. Personally, I would rather not see a football team sharing a field with a baseball team. Sharing with another football team, at the very least, doesn't allow for there to be patches of sand at midfield. Believe me, I understand your stance. I just think Woody did the best thing for the long-term financial success of the ballclub. In the end, if that money gets recycled into the team, I can't really complain.
You do realize that 70% of ALL season tix holders are from NJ per the NYJ tix office? That excludes the ones that live in CT & upstate NY & I am sure of those folks are very, very happy the NYJs are staying in NJ since they make up most of the NYJ season tix base.
Champs, how sure are you of these figures? I've suspected the figure could exceed 50%, but I've never actually seen any confirmation of this. Do you have a source for this? Not questioning what you may have read, I'd just like to know for sure.
Totally sure it was issued by the NYJ tix office some years back. Most of the so called fans in LI gave up the tix in the 84 move cause they did not want to cross the river. OTH it was fine for us NJites to cross the river in the other direction to see them when they played at Shea. The LIers are just a whinning bunch of fair weather fans IMHO.
I think this should be an actual award this year, with nominations and voting etc. Let's make it happen.
I understand what you mean, and it's not totally Woody's fault--part of it is that he wasn't willing to put up enough cash, but who knows? If Woody offered to put up twice what he said, maybe it wouldn't have been enough Silver and Bruno. So I guess agree to disagree on the stadium issue--besides, the really important thing is winning, and so far I like where the team is headed in that direction.
I would like to see something to back that up, but even if it's true, I got the impression that a lot of Jet fans wanted a stadium in NY. If that's not true, then just ignore the parts of my original post about "making Jet fans' dreams come true"--in the end, I was only speaking for myself, really.
OK & all U have to do is call the NYJ tix office for the stats. I really took exception to your post cause you never asked my opinion of what I felt was best for me
I am sure if the Jets moved back to NY, there would be 70% NYers on the ticket list. Come on, that's a ridiculous argument. And you still didn't answer what SLW is. Obviously, I am not the only one who doesn't know. Stop holding your nose in the air and tell the crowd.
For sure I do not consider yourself the crowd. Facts are facts & what I posted are the present FACTS so either accept it or go to the NYJ tix office & find out for yourself. Yours are just SPECULATION which has zero value & in any case it will be many, many, many, many years before the NYJs will play a home game again in NYC which is just another FACT
Sorry for not PMing you for your opinion before making my post. Re-read what I wrote, mentally replacing the words "Jet fans" with the word "dbatesman." Better?
OK & since 70% of the season tix holders are from NJ I am sure they are happy. This board has very few season tix holders the last time we took a census so the non season tix holders they are like sour apples always whining & complaining especially the LIers
I'm a NJ season ticket holder and I'm glad the Jets are staying NJ. The NY/LI ticketholders are certainly free to voice their disappointment the new stadium won't be closer to them. The people that annoy me are the non season ticket holders that always crow about the "Jets not having a home" and other nonsense about how a stadium in NJ is some kind of mortal sin. For whatever reason the non season ticket holders seem to be the ones that are the most upset.
Yes it is very, very small thinking on there part. They probably do not even realize that we went from ZERO ownership to 50% ownership of our OWN stadium. To me 50% is far better then nada
There is no way that I buy that 70% of the people in the stadium are from the great state of New Jersey. No way. Just look at the license plates next game Champ 69 always wants facts posted for him when one makes any statement that he takes issue with, yet on his statements you have to 'call the Jets'.
