I don't think this will happen... but it's not the most impossible scenario in the world either. There will be many teams in need of reaching the salary floor and Holmes, Edwards & Cromartie all might be good investments. Someone might even offer good money to Smith. I can't see Tanny overpaying to keep them here... well actually he might overpay for one of the two WRs in this scenario but we might still be outbid. In this very unlikely but not out of this world scenario what investments would you make to keep the Jets competitive? 1. Matt Roth, OLB, Browns: Let's upgrade the pass-rush... He loved playing for Rob Ryan last season, the Cowboys don't have any cap room whatsoever so he might want to try playing for the other Ryan. He'll be paid more than he's worth but I can't see him get a very big contract... after all he's only had one very good season. 2. Carlos Rodgers, CB, Redskins: He can still be a very good #2 in man coverage and again won't be that expensive. Him and Wilson can alternate opposite to Revis (we have to have some confidence in Wilson otherwise he'll never have the chance to step up). 3. James Jones, WR, Packers: Lot's of potential... let's give him the opportunity to show it. 4. Legedu Naanee, WR: Solid WR with very good speed (4.41 40yd). Was a QB in his first years in college... This would also allow us to re-sign most of the unheralded players on our roster... PS In this scenario a trade for someone might make sense, although I'm not sure for who... Again not saying this is what I WANT to happen or this is what WILL happen... but what would you guys do in this "rebuilding" scenario?
I'm not sure who I'd like see burn in a fire more between Smith and Moss... although I'm not denying their football talents. PS This is also an alley-oop for Mr E's opinion on this thread I'm sure...
Start praying that Sanchez breaks out in the biggest kind of year, and that the 2 WRs we drafted end up both being grand slams. Because without our two biggest homerun threats on offense this offense is gonna fucking struggle mightily
Find a way to get Sidney Rice or Malcolm Floyd Then look at acquiring Matt Roth or Manny Lawson (decent in coverage - not exactly a good pass-rusher though)
Make a run at Vincent Jackson would be my first step. Trade for Steve Smith would be step 2. Not too sure what CB I'd go for but Jonathan Joseph may offer the best bang for your buck in the top-tier corner market for this offseason. And also take a shot at Ed Reed once the Ravens cut him to help with salary cap space. Another Trevor Pryce-type signing. Highly unlikely but if anyone could do it it's Rex.
First off if we can't resign Cromartie we will probably stay with Wilson as a starter, but if Rex still doesn't think Wilson can handle the heat of playing opposite Revis he would give a call to Chris Carr who he knows and knows our system. Knowing the system will be key to a good start in this F@ck'd up year. Also, we forget Pool who was very productive last year is a UFA. He is a good run safety, but average at pass coverage and has quite a few concuscions under his belt. Some of us have mentioned Landry as an upgrade and who would fit nicely, plus help more in pass coverage. It wouldn't be bad taking both Landry and Carr from one of are toughest competition. Now for our recievers, plain and not so simple I want them all back, but if we can only keep one it would be Edwards. If we can't keep any I would make a run for Sidney Rice, but fear he would cost as much as Edwards who I would rather keep in that option. So if losing all of them my take is go for the solid, cheaper option with a touch of risk. Recievers need to be on the same page with each other and whether they are best friends or don't talk, they need to know how each other operates. I would re-unite Steve Smith of the NYG and Burress. They both know the area and are use to the setup in New York. Then finally I would add in one of these guy's I've always liked in Steve Breaston or Chansi Stuckey. First off Stuckey knows our system and Mark knows him, plus he is coming off a solid year on a shitty team that still doesn't know who their QB will be. Same can be said for Breaston who has averaged 60 catches a year the last three season playing for another shitty team still looking for a QB. Breaston is more proven, Chansi knows the system. Our offense would take a slight hit, but our defense would be even better. Loss ----------- Gain Pool ................ Landry Cromartie ......... Carr Edwards .......... Burress Holmes ............ S. Smith Smith .............. Stuckey loss = Pool, Cromartie, Edwards, Holmes, Smith gain = Landry, Carr, Burress, S Smith, Stuckey
Mr. E is back from Monmouth park racing and loves reading others thinking like him; Problem with replacing guys is the lack of time coaches have with new players. It would be sloppy at best, but Mr. T won't pull a Bradway and do nothing. Lets hope the love for Rex shines bright and everyone stays home with Papa Ryan.. Now lets get a god damm snack.
id then try to bring nnamdi asomugha to the jets to try to build the best defense possible and then id sign moss since if motivated he can have a great season
If the ravens cut Ed Reed Im gonna do cartwheels around my house because Ed Reed would be 100% certain to reunite with Rex and Join Gang Green!!!!!!!
really depends on how much sanchez wants to improve this season. he cant be below average again with those weapons on his team.
