Is he bluffing? If not, this is pretty stunning.

Mike Brown is probly the dumbest fucking owner in the league. I almost feel bad for Marvin Lewis being stuck with that stupid prick.

This definitely would be stunning... I always hoped he would rebound a bit and be the QB he was before the injury.

Palmer told that dumb ass organization that he'd retire if they didn't trade him.

I think he's one of those So. Cal guys with more than enough money and other interests that he seems content to move on rather than play for the Bengals.

His accuracy has been pretty awful for a few years now, and maybe he just isn't commited to being great again? He seems pretty at ease with the idea of sitting out.

I'm surprised Bengals fans haven't united in an assassination attempt on Mike Brown.

Normally I would get on the player in something like this, but he's willing to walk away from how many millions of dollars? Things must be pretty bad for a person to do that. If he does this god willing he lives to be an old man this is probably gonna be such a "I wish I can go back in time, and make a different decision" moment. However, I won't believe this until the actually retire papers are filed.

Why get beat up for that crappy organization? I have seen stories that say Palmer trains like crazy to get ready for the season.

He might lack the mental fortitude after getting hit maybe he needs a change. Who knows.......

One thing is clear, if you are financially secure why bother working in an untenable position. I cannot say I blame him. That organization is Mickey Mouse all the way.

    I think I just insulted a rodent.

I don't have any idea what you're getting at.

I'll just state how fucking dumb Brown is, again.

I'm saying regardless of his issues with the team it's still the NFL. He may later on regret not playing.

Is Palmer allowed to go to another team following this retirement? I'm guessing no since the Bengals own his rights.

Or he may sit at home watching Andy Dalton get shit on every week as the swiss cheese Bengals OL invites every half-assed pass rush in the league to have a go at their QB. Palmer spent the whole of last season under serious pressure and probably reckons he's well out of there while he's still intact.

No... or every "unhappy guy" would just fake retire. Only Farve is allowed to do that.

it isn't as if he is the difference maker that the Bengals need to be good. They should be jumping for joy that any team would be willing to trade for him and dump his salary, but the owner would rather be spiteful than good.

I can't imagine why any free agent would ever want to sign with the Bengals if they had a comparable offer elsewhere. this isn't a franchise that just has bad luck, it is a team that has earned its shittiness.

If I were Palmer I'd continue to play but do a half-ass job, get benched and collect the 11 million bucks. Keep on doing that until I get traded or released.

yeah, he's got to call their bluff and take their money. if they want to pay him like a starter to ruin the team, that is their call.

Second that. Brown is an idiot. His father was a football god, but sometimes the apple falls pretty goddamn far from the tree. This is a guy who complains about his team not making money while leaving millions on the table annually by refusing to sell stadium naming rights. He's a dumbass.

Well, this type of negotiating tactic did work for Barry Sanders. Oh wait . . . .
