It'll be difficult to choose between Holmes and Edwards b/c both offer things that are very valuable and very difficult to replace within a team's structure. Edwards has a rare combination of size and athleticism, and has become a very good player on third down. While Holmes has elite breakaway speed and makes a ton of big clutch plays. The Steelers missed Santonio on that last drive in the SB that's for sure. Ideally, you keep both which combined w/ Cotchery,Keller, and Greene...gives Sanchez a fantastic offensive skills group that is still young and has a high ceiling due to the ongoing chemistry factor. Is that possible? I'm not sure. If we're forced to only keep one of the two..I think you offer them the same contract...a contract that is lucrative yet cap friendly and allows for flexibility...first one to take it gets resigned
I am starting to feel much more comfortable with our WR core with the signing of Holmes. I would still like to see them add a big target, but I am comfortable with Cotchery as the No. 2.
With Holmes signed to a long term deal and he and Sanchez should become a fordable pair, as long as Holmes stays clean. The rest of the core has some decent depth that will be mixed and matched in different packages. The newly signed Burress gives Sanchez the big target that he needs, Turner has a chance to develop into his replacement if he makes the team. Cotchery is a solid possession receiver who is good after the catch and plays hard. Kerley appears to be a nice slot receiver who is dangerous after the catch. McKnight appears to be an overachieve type with good hands who should already have good chemistry Sanchez. It will be interesting to see how their roles develop over the season.
I really like lil Scotty... Hope his speed transitions well to the pro game. Can't wait to see Cotch healthy again
Mason replaces Cotchery on the depth chart. Hopefully Kerley and McKnight will pick Mason's brain and learn the details of the position. Kerely has been looking great in practice so far.
