In what order would you objectively rank the 10 best offensive and 10 best defensive players in New York? Strictly going by who plays their position at the highest level, here's my list ... OFFENSE: 1- Mangold 2- Holmes 3- Brick 4- Nicks 5- Manning 6- Deihl 7- Bradshaw 8- Keller 9- Greene 10-Tomlinson DEFENSE: 1- Revis 2- Tuck 3- Umenyiora 4- Harris 5- Scott 6- Cromartie 7- Pierre-Paul 8- Leonhard 9- Kiwanuka 10- Rolle
1. New York Jets 2. New York Giants 3. Army Black Knights 4. LIU Blackbirds 5. Fordham Rams 6. Manhattan Jaspers 7. Cornell Big Red 8. St. John's Red Storm 9. Columbia Lions 10. Buffalo Bills
Hakeem Nicks at 4? Is he better than I assumed, I thought he was pretty good but that seems really high. Otherwise a pretty sound list, I dont think min ewould be much different.
I'm not going to argue the actual order with you (that won't get anywhere) but I think you Snee deserves to be near (if not at...sorry!) the top of that list. I also wouldn't count out Diehl or KMac. And I think either Terrell Thomas or Corey Webster should be on for D. I also don't know if I would have JPP on that list just yet.
I have to agree with you on Snee ... totally overlooked him. No matter where you slotted him in, Tomlinson would get bumped out.
I wouldnt put Terrell Thomas on that list. Reminds me of DeAngello Hall. Makes plays, but gives up a ton.
I bet most GM's would see him as a top 10-12 QB in the league, and he has been a Superbowl MVP... but with that said, maybe I would slide him down a spot or two. Maybe something like this? OFFENSE: 1- Mangold 2- Holmes 3- Brick 4- Nicks 5- Snee 6- Deihl 7- Manning 8- Bradshaw 9- Keller 10-Greene
He's a QB, so that alone will help him push past other positions (ie a good QB is a better player than a good WR). Besides that I think you have to make note of his positives (has made the line calls for several 1,000 yards rushers, strong arm, durable, scores points, has thrown for over 4,000 yards last 2 seasons, and has done all this in an arena REALLY rough to play QB in). Most people take only his negatives (forces throws for INTs, accuracy can be inconsistent at times, looks/talks kind of dumb, landed an inexplicably attractive wife), but the good far outweighs the bad with Eli and I'm willing to bet most teams would be thrilled to have him at QB.
I know I said I wouldn't do this, but I would put Snee above every Giant on the list. I think you can make the argument for him being #1 on that list. I don't think Diehl belongs above Manning. Also, and maybe this is just because I've expected more from him career-wise, but I question Keller being on the list. Maybe bump Greene up and put Sanchez at 10? His playoff wins and hit-the-ground-running stat to his career have to be worth something.
He gives up some plays, but he's targeted a lot as Webster (quietly) tends to shut his guy down on most plays. Having said that Thomas responds positively much more often than not to being targeted frequently. He's also a top 5 tackling/against-the-run CB and I think that means something in the windy Meadowlands/in the NFC East.
It's hard to put these in order ... I was just kicking it around for some friendly conversation ... but Eli certainly belongs in the top 10. You can debate the order for most of these, but for me Revis and Mangold are set in stone at #1 on each list. Nobody in the league plays their positions better than they do.
