Team most affected by loss of a starting QB

Taking Peyton Manning out of the picture, which other team would have the biggest win-loss DROP if their QB went down for the season? To me that is the best way to determine which QB is most important to their team. A lot of it depends on how good the backup QB is and how good the rest of the team is. I don't think the Bengals' record will change too much if their starting QB goes down. They suck anyway.

The only reason I wouldn't go with Brady is because I think their backup QBs would be able to keep things going fairly well. Same with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. I almost went with Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Then I thought about Sanchez, not because he's that great, but mainly because our backups are sketchy. But in the end, I'm going with Philip Rivers and the Chargers. He made chicken salad from chicken shit last year with his receivers. He carries that team. They would be screwed without him.

    Rivers is a good example.

I would add Vick from the Eagles, if he goes down they are fucked. With VY at the helm I don't see them getting far even if they made the playoffs.

I guess I should add a poll, I was just curious of opinions on the one team that would be most affected.

I doubt the Giants are going to put up a great record anyway.

I went with Philly because Vince Young looks terrible.

On the flip side, if Henne gets season ending vagina inflammation and the Phins have to play Matt Moore they probably win an extra three games.

Either the Saints or the Chargers. Those two teams rely the most on their QBs. I don't have any faith in Chase Daniel at this point. He's far from ready to step in for any meaningful game action, and that passing offense would falter. The Packers acquitted themselves well without Rodgers, nearly beating the Patriots last season with Flynn. They'd falter, but not as much IMO. They're too well rounded a team, and I doubt they'll have many close games like Thursday night. The Chargers very well could have been a 4 win team without Rivers last season. This year, I expect them to win 10/11 games. They'd win 5/6 without PR. The Saints probably drop an extra 5/6 as well with no Brees. 4 for the Packers.

The Patriots are the most interesting case. No QB in the NFL executes an offense better than Tom Brady. In the end, however, it's a timing based offense, and receivers are put in positions to maximize success by Belichick's system. It's based on precision. While no one is better at running that offense than Brady, the system could likely make up for his loss to some extent. They're an 11/12 win team with Brady this season, but would likely win 7/8 without him.

The other teams all have run games that could in part make up for the loss of their starter.

I would have said the Colts but they have Kerry Collins.

Technically it'll be the Titans this year. They lost Collins. They will go from 6 wins and 10 losses to -2 wins and 18 losses. Its science.

Without Brady, in a very tough AFC, the Pats are sunk. I would argue that San Diego is probably close too, but they have a better defense and they play in a less competitive division. They could win grind it out games against teams like Oakland and KC if their defense stepped up and they ran the ball effectively.

So how did they go 11-5 without Brady a few years ago?

Pats would take a step back, but not a huge one.

Without Brees, I think the Saints might have relocated to LA

5 more losses is a decent step back.

That said, this is excellent in depth analysis and we should all pay attention.

I'm a bit confused at Rivers getting so many votes. The Bolts had the number 1 passing offense in the league last year and didn't make the playoffs. How much worse would they do with the 16th best passing offense?

I don't think the Pats would lose 5 more games without Brady. Maybe 3.

Without Rivers last year, the Bolts might have been in the cellar. He took a bunch of nobodys at WR and made them look great. If he didn't pass elevate the passing game last year, the running game would have been worse and the defense would have been on the field more.

I voted Eagles but should have gone with the Saints. Either of those teams would be screwed if their starters are injured. We'll probably get to find out exactly how screwed, at some point, with the Eagles... does anyone think Vick will make it through 16+ games? But Brees is pretty durable.

I would have picked the Chargers but Billy Volek has usually done alright while filling in for McNair and others. He's one of those "journeyman" vets you like having around.
