Everyone needs to calm down, it was interesting and you should be thankful it's not a Bleacher Report thread.
If Parcells would have guaranteed that Peyton Manning would be a Jet, there was a good chance he would have come out. Some background: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1997-03-09/sports/1997068188_1_bill-parcells-archie-manning-peyton http://articles.baltimoresun.com/19..._1_new-york-jets-bill-parcells-1997-nfl-draft When the Jets were refusing to give up the No. 1 pick to the New England Patriots in the draft as part of the compensation package for Parcells, they were assuming Manning would be the choice. Without Manning in the draft, the pick isn't as valuable. Manning said Parcells' move to the Jets caused him to rethink his position. "I had been pretty intent on staying until I found out that Bill Parcells would be the coach of the New York Jets. That really shook things up a little bit because I have a lot of respect for him," Manning said. But Parcells apparently didn't promise to draft him instead of trading him for a king's ransom of draft picks. Manning said: "There were no guarantees as to where I was going to go in the draft this year. We really didn't have those types of talks." Without a guarantee, Manning decided to stay in school and take his chances on going to the worst team in next year's draft. Remember the whole thing with Archie, Eli and the Chargers? Well Archie would have wanted Peyton playing for Parcells, Parcells just didn't try to make it happen. Deep down I think Parcells wanted to trade down just to offset some of the picks lost when he came to the Jets so he wouldn't face criticism about his "cost"
Play out the "What ifs" if Parcells drafts manning 1st overall in 1997. You probably end up with Manning replacing Neil_O'Donnell sometime in the 1997 season. Manning has Keyshawn and Chrebet as his WRs. Do the Jets still offer the "poison pill" contract to Curtis Martin? All things being equal, if the Jets make the same moves they probably get to the super bowl around 98 and perhaps win it in 99 in memory of Leon Hess. Parcells retires, but does Belichick leave if Manning is there? Fun stuff.
the packers never would have traded aaron rodgers. and even if they did, we would still have mangini as a coach.
Just a few problems... 1) Aaron Rodgers as a Jet would have learned a new system so it can't be a forgone conclusion that Rodgers instantly erupts with the Jets in 2008, especially with Schottenheimer and that 10 wins is a lock for Mangini to keep his job 2) I don't think Rex Ryan would take the Oakland open job if his brother Rob could not get it. Would not be too good if Rex Ryan took the Raiders job and his brother did not so in that sense Rex would not have done it. He has been vocal that he holds a grudge over Oakland for how they handled his brother.
3) Oh and if Mangini isn't a Brown, what is to say that new management would not take Mark Sanchez 5th overall? Mangini wanted HIS guys in that deal he made with the Jets in a trade up. If he didn't get the specific guys he wanted, no deal and Jets would have never landed Mark in a trade up so in hindsight having Mangini as the Cleveland coach was a great thing. No forgone conclusion different management gives up Sanchez in a deal. Still I found the video to be very entertaining and nice, just a few little flaws here and there.
What if the Jets drafted Jerry Rice instead of Al Toon? I believe it was over Turf or Grass. What if?
It wouldn't matter , we still have Schotty. What if Schotty didn't have blackmail on Tanny? We could have a good OC!
Nah, Rodgers is good enough to compensate for Schotty. Remember, Sanchez has won his game in spite of him, not because of.
