No, I'm not talking about this hair/beard. Can Mangold and the coaching staff groom Baxter into a solid back-up Center for this team? I honestly don't know much about him other than that he is an un-drafted rookie, so if someone can shed some light on his player profile, that would be cool. FWIW, I just watched his post-game interview on SNY, man, he is a timid, shy rookie  .
He's played marginally well, and he has to step in for the best center in football, so its quite a drop off. If he keeps this up and gets better then they'll keep him. Hunter is on a 1 year deal, and his agents are Revis' agents, so you know he's gone.
I thought we signed Wayne to a 4 year $13 million dollar deal? Or are you talking about Turner or somebody else?
He played ok today. He was overrunning blocks at times but was ok in his first start. That interview was embarassing, maybe moreso than the interviewer.
Perhaps they can groom him into an adequate backup center. However, even if Baxter becomes good enough to be an average NFL starting center, the dropoff is still huge. Mangold has been the best C in the league for years & the Jets are used to having that type of production from the Center position when game-planning their run/passing plays.
I don't think he was good at all. I must have been watching a different game. There were a lot of protections that were mixed up, to many broken plays etc. etc. Baxter was pushed around, too many jail breaks etc. etc. Before anyone complains I am well aware he is UDFA. I am also well aware of who he is replacing. I am also saying that the Oline play has been atrocious and the depth terrible. I thought Tanny learned his lesson with Clarke and that other aborted fetus at Oline that I can not remember this moment in 2005. I honestly thought there would be little fall off with Hunter playing for Woody. I was completely wrong. Woody retiring has really lowered the bar for this line as it most lines are a function of their weak links. 3 mediocre to bad to atrocious players on the line is a killer. Sanchez can't be happy because imo Sanchez has certainly improved. Although it is difficult to tell with him running for his life every single play.
Absolutely. I have agree with this. He is putting balls in some tight spots and getting them there. Sanchez 2011 + OLine 2009/2010 and this would have been a shootout the Jets could easily won.
I believe the aborted fetus you have in mind is Anthony Clement. According to his Wikipedia page, he's still with the Gaytriots, but I honestly don't believe a shitbag like that would still be in the league at this point, and I can't find any more supporting evidence. Also, the year in question would be 2007, the year with the whole Pete Kendall fisaco. This O-line play needs to improve, and fast. Sanchez is looking pretty good- imagine if he actually had time to throw. We need Mangold to use his viking powers to heal up, because it's looking pretty grim otherwise, I'm talking Ngata and then Wilfork vs. Colin Baxter (and Slauson and Moore having to help out) -shudder-
Do we know with any certainty how long it will be before Mangold will be back playing? I'm sure that with the right help Baxter could be a useful backup, but I dread the thought of him up against Ngata and Wilfork in the next couple of games
