When and how will spend this money? Is there any reason for not spending it?

I remember before the season everyone was eagerly waiting on what free agent we would bring in but then we realized that Tanny would be saving this money for emergency. While I do think we are far from emergency zone, we all know that we have lost some solid players to injury so far. I hope that Tanny is out in some shady backrooms dealings trying to get the pieces to fall into place for some type of blockbuster mid season trade.
I know 8.6 isn't exactly a blockbuster type number but we have enough to bring in someone that can make a noticeable difference. From what I've seen there isn't really anything good available for free agents so I'm hoping that once some teams realize what their season is going to amount to they are willing to make some dealings.
Does this make sense or am I making this up?

It's an emergency fund which can be a HUGE help if carried over into next year under the new CBA.

exactly. the cap for the next two years is almost like a 2 year cap. We can spend X dollars this year and next. So even though we are under right now, next year we still have it to spend.

As to the person who is about to suggest we spend the 8 million. who is on the market right now that we should be paying? all the OL guys are either just as bad as ours, or are injured (O'Hara before he is suggested falls here) We are looking at a blocking TE in Manamaleuna. Who else is worth looking at? Because I don't see anyone...

That's going to help completely retooling the OL next season.

I have a feeling the RT and LG spots are going to have competition, and the RG spot is going to have a young player in the waiting.

Tanny will be a factor in FA yet again.

Slauson has been just fine. His salary is a few hundred grands, and he has great help from both sides. Mangold is a tough SoB, but he gives too many injury scares. We need a center who can take over Mangold and be decent. We definitely need RT and we need to get younger at RG. I think we are leaving LG alone next year as we have plenty of holes to fix.

Could have been used to keep the WR corps slightly more intact instead of aging it horribly.

Edwards was asking too much, from what I've heard. And Cotch wanted out. We did a good job replacing them with cheaper vets that are better overall. I couldn't stand Cotch dropping 15 catches while catching 40 again. I'll give him that catch against Browns though.

Bro... Mangold had never missed a game and had 82 consecutive starts until this ankle injury. He is still young and will be a perennial pro bowler for years to come. He is literally the last person you need to worry about.

I probably worded my sentence(s) wrong, but what I was saying is, he has given a lot of injury scares. He hasn't been injured for a game until two wks ago, but he has been injured for a few plays/drive and then comes back to the huddle. We don't need his replacement. We just need someone who can hold the fort for a game or two incase shit happens. I believe Turner can be fine in any case. I love the guy. He will do everything possible to be out there in the huddle and thats why you don't see him miss any games. His injury is supposed to be a 4-6 week injury, but I bet he will be snapping against the Patriots this week. We just need two or three reliable, 'hold the fort' type of OL guys as depth, and need to upgrade RT and probably RG next year. Moore is getting up there in age and we need to develop a draft pick to take his spot.

Ducasse could still develop into a serviceable backup if not starter by next year. It might be better to pick up the best RT free agent that comes available, spend a 3rd or 4th rounder on a guard to add depth and go OLB with the first round.

Yea I loved having turner because he showed time and time again that if anyone on the Oline drops we can continue on without much drop off. What a twist of fates that turner and then mangold both go down. Thank god thor will be back soon !

And ducasse pisses me off. The dude is a beastttttt why can't he just learn to play !!!

We've mentioned it in the Draft forum, but I'd love it if they find a way to sign Mario Williams.

Rex would have a field day with this guy in his scheme. Also, this is the puzzle piece the Jets need to become complete defensively.

Couple of needs, in fact. Mario Williams would be huge for this D, but I don't think we can afford him unless we let go of another position. Our second biggest need is a play making safety. Hopefully we draft one early on that can actually play immediately, rather than the likes of DuCasse fucking raw shit.

Absolutely. Loved Turner. Him going down should have been a red flag I think, but we didn't make a move for any solid depth or upgrade in the OL. I sense a mid season trade here in the next two weeks if shit continues to go downhill. Be it in the OL dept, or the OLB dept.

agree on slauson he has been more than adequate especially for a guy they didn't watch any tape on when drafted.

gotta think RT will be right at the top of the list.

I think Slauson has been mediocre. He's certainly not another Alan Faneca, even Alan Faneca with the Jets.

Having said that, every game that goes by this year I am more concerned about Moore than Slauson. Moore is definitely not as good as last year.

Definitely right about Moore. His surgery this offseason has definitely affected him.

The Jets are definitely going to have to address the O-line next offseason in a big way. They can't afford to draft another "project" player like Ducasse. They need a guy who can step in as a rookie and contribute right away, or invest some money in free agency on a guy. They could live with an injured and declining Moore if their line was like the last 2 years. But you can't have Moore playing average, and Slauson, and Hunter.

Brandon Moore wasn't that good last year either. There were three offensive linemen better than Moore last year.

Moore's cap number and diminished play might make him a cap casualty this off-season. I just don't know if the FO will take the chance of further hamstringing this already below-impact line. Either way, next year's draft and FA period needs to re-stock the trenches on the offensive side of the ball. We covered defense linemen, now we need to find their playmates.

I disagree.. Moore was very good last year. Saying he was the 4th best lineman on the team is not an insult at all to him. You are talking about 2 All-Pro calibre players, and Damien Woody, who was tremendous. Doesn't mean Moore was bad. He was still really good, and arguably our best run blocker.
