Under what circumstances did he leave the Jets? Was he cut? Did he get Injured? Traded? Did he retire?

I believe he went to the Eagles after the Jets.

He played for Joe Walton until 1989. When Coslet came in 1990 he followed our OC, one Rich Kotex, to Philly.

He lives in this area. His son graduated high school 2 years ago (I think) The kid was a local football star.

Shuler was the last great TE we've had IMO.

Sorry the ONLY "great" TE we EVER had was Pete Lammons IMHO

I don't agree, during the stretch of 1983-1989 Shuler was putting up numbers Lammons could never dream of. Mickey played twice as long, had over twice the yards, well over twice the receptions and a ton more TDs. Not to mention more pro-bowl appearances. Can't agree with you on this one, JMHO.....

Last I heard about 4 years ago Shuler lived in the suburbs of Harrisburg, PA. East Pennsboro, I believe.

Yep, about 6 miles from my town. He's been known to frequent sports bars in this area. I got his autograph on his poster a few years ago.

It's says : "Pam, Keep the faith! Mickey Shuler #82". He really is a nice, nice guy. :)

Yep, cause we all know that the 53rd player on the SB team was better than anyone current.

Who was the 53rd man on that team again?

Coslet and Dick Steinberg took over a 4-12 rebuilding situation, much like this year, and got rid of a lot of older players. Ken O'Brien ended up in Philly with Kotite for a while too, in 1993, with a few other ex-Jets.

Buddy Ryan, after he left Philly, once said of Kotite "He has more old bad Jets than Kaddafi."

I agree numbers don't show the entire picture, but neither does superbowl rings. Take one Dan Marino for example....
