I'm not totally sure Shonn Greene plays for the Jets in 2012. If I ran the way he runs, I'd demand a new contract this off-season. If he does that, the Jets would do well to trade him. Unless you drafted a clear Hall of Famer like Tomlinson or Peterson, I don't think you should ever give a running back a second contract.
How stupid, I voted for the wrong one. I meant to vote for 1 where the Jets keep LT one more year. I love the guy's competitiveness.
As much as I like and respect LT i'm hoping Powell shows something in TC next season and along with McNight and Greene we can have a pretty young backfield.
If he wants to play next year he will still be able to play in the league. I assume it will come down to money with the jets.
I'd like to see LT come back. He has good hands and does well picking up blitzers when he's in there for 3rd downs. Also, he'll come back pretty cheap. Don't get the impression he's looking for any more big contracts, he just wants to hang around till he gets a ring & he's productive enough on 3rd down to help a team accomplish that. If Jets win the SB, LT retires and it's all a moot point.
Who are the free agent backs next season? Option 5 that might be at least considered could be a stop gap at the position until the other backs are ready to play at a high level. Personally I think that the Jets are probably able to replace things in house after LT retires, but it's an idea worth entertaining on a jets fans forum.
Long time reader, rarely post. Unless Shonne Greene shows more, I am not opposed to the management going another way. Who knows where we pick, and who knows who will be available, but I am not against a high draft pick getting the nod. Pass rushers and Oline are at the top of the pile but with LT a year older, Shonne not looking like we expected him to look two seasons removed from his rookie campaign - I dont think we have a legitimate starting back for 2012. Maybe Powell is an answer, maybe not. But I personally dont feel that Shonne is the answer. I have not seen enough from him this year or last year. This year I would be happy to blame it on poor oline play but he did the same thing in 2010. He cant get into space because he always looks for contact, not a bad thing, just not the type of guy I think I want as a feature back. Powell could be a compliment, or maybe Mcknight would be a nice compliment, but Greene alone is not for me. I would love to see LT on the squad if they think he can produce. I am happy with him as an option out of the backfield, and with the lack of vet leadership that we hear about, his presence in the locker room I have never been in is a good thing...for what thats worth.
I'd love to have LT back next season. However, we'll have to see where he fits. I'm sure the Jets are going to want to start having McKnight getting the ball more. We'll also see how SG handles the rest of the year. Also, I'm sure they're going to want to get Powell in there.
I don't see a role for LT here next year and Greene has at most 2 more productive seasons ahead, maybe less. You move them on if you can and ship them out before they're Derrick Blaylock.
If you want LT back after this year, then you are gonna be disappointed...he's gone. They are grooming JoeMac to be his replacement. And I think he will be a good one.
