from USAToday: ?NT Sione Pouha will be lost for an extended period of time after surgery to repair a knee injury suffered in the first week of camp. Pouha, who lost 30 pounds in the offseason, was expected to play a larger role in the base defense in his second year and would have backed up Dewayne Robertson, who is moving over from DE in the Jets' new 3-4 alignment.
That sucks. Looks like it could be arthroscopic surgery though, so maybe he can come back mid-season and contribute.
So Sione LIED to us. That bastard! I'd like to see another paper other than the USA Today report it though. It's kind of a crappy newspaper.
You don't trust the credibility of USA Today??? I mean after all they do state that DRob is moving over from DE in our new d-alignment hmy: Surgery wouldn't surprise me though...
I don't even know what that means. It says he's moving over from DE, whicih is false because he wasn't a DE last year, and most 4-3 DEs either stay at DE or move to OLB. Or it says he's moving to DE because of the 3-4 making him undersized at DT, which is also false.
You guys are reading that wrong.... he said DRob was moving, but it could be a simple typo... he meant from DT, not DE. Very dissappointed with the Pouha news.... looks like some people will eat a little crow on the reports we saw here.... both on Martin and Pouha. USA today actually does a pretty good job on their team reports.... they come from beat writers, not USA Today guys. PS: almost seems like jensen is happy about this, doesn't it?
Wonder how Popes personal problems are looking now.....it was no big deal last week, now looks lie Matt Mchesney could see signifigant time
That sucks man, what a big setback for him. Here I though this was Pouha's year and now who knows how much time he'll miss....well I guess we'll have to turn to our other Samoan, Tui Alailafuela
did anyone else see this is the paper?? im wondering why a tidbit of Jets Information (about the backup NT no less) is a topic brought up in the sports section of USA today? granted i dont read the USAToday but it sound fishy to me..
They mention Pouha's injury in today's NY Daily News (8/9). http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/story/441880p-372199c.html Coles yet to catch on to Eric plan BY DARREN EVERSON DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 The Jets' No. 1 receiver doesn't know what his role is. Doesn't know what the new coach thinks of him. Has no idea whether Eric Mangini likes what he sees. Laveranues Coles is so uncertain of himself in the Jets' new regime, he didn't know what to say yesterday when he was asked how he is feeling. "Is this one of those questions that I'm supposed to say you're supposed to ask Coach?" he said with a smile. In some ways, Coles sounds like everyone else. Speaking after the Jets' morning practice yesterday, Coles watched every word he said, careful not to speak out of turn. He did admit, however, that he is feeling the effects of Mangini's exhausting practices. "I don't feel good - I can tell you that," Coles said. "I don't know what grounds I can cover with saying certain things, but that's pretty much it. I don't feel great at all." After an off day Monday, the Jets' morning practice ran two hours and 12 minutes, and the evening session went two hours 28 minutes. Two and a half hours has been the standard length, even during the heat wave last week. "It's very different," Coles said. "It's nothing like anything I've ever been through, I can tell you that. It's just ...it's camp. ... I wouldn't compare it to boot camp because I've never been, but just hearing some of the stories about camp, it's pretty rough." In terms of all the skill players in Jets camp, Coles' role should be the most clear. After coming back to the Jets, Coles had only three games with Chad Pennington last season before the quarterback got hurt but still caught 73 passes for 845yards and scored five touchdowns."I don't know how pleased Coach is with how we're doing because he never smiles," said Coles. Mangini has publicly praised Coles, saying he appreciates that he is a complete receiver, effective in both the passing and running game. Coles smiled when told of the compliment. "That's the first time I've heard it," he said. START OVER: As for the preseason opener Friday at Tampa Bay, Mangini continues to decline to name a starter. Even Pennington said he hasn't been told whether he'll start. At the very least, it appears that it'll be either Pennington or Patrick Ramsey. Pennington started the 11-on-11 team drills in yesterday's morning practice and worked with the first team. Ramsey got the second-most reps, then was the lead quarterback in the evening session. Brooks Bollinger worked with the second team in the second practice. OUT: DT Sione Pouha (knee) will undergo surgery in the next two days. He will likely miss the rest of the season. ... The Jets waived rookie WR Deqawn Mobley.... The Jets' press notes contained no hints about their depth chart, as all of the players were listed in alphabetical order.
That just sucks about Pouha, it seems that he was going to start to improve considering he lost 30 pounds in the offseason. BTW, by losing 30 pounds, wouldn't that put him at 300 lbs or slightly under because I thought his weight was 325 last year?
Word. But if Chad stays healthy we won't be 4-12. It certainly makes watching college ball that much more interesting when it looks like your team is going to get a high pick. I doubt we'll be in Brady Quinn territory, though.
