I just got an email from the jets with details about the game and I noted the team captains for the game. Captains: DT Marcus Dixon, LB Josh Mauga, DL Martin Tevaseu, RB LaDainian Tomlinson, S Kyle Wilson It seems quite a random selection to me unless I am missing something? I was just curious - how do teams typically pick the captains for a game? Does it have any significance within the game itself or is it just a small honorific? In soccer the idea of a "captain" seems a much bigger deal than in football and it is the single captain that is supposed to be the team leader on and off the pitch.
If Im not mistaken, the Jets have season captains, one for offense, defense, and special teams. These are the go to guys . The "captains" of the team. Sanchez, Pouha, and Im not sure about special teams. Than Rex usually has the "honorary captains" come game day who go out for coin flip. Ive noticed its always been a guy who used to play for team(Jason Taylor was only captain vs Dolphins and Maybin vs Bills I think) or a guy just called up to squad, or promoted from practice squad. I think Rex does it as a motivational thing to pump a guy up whose down, or had a rough week or celebrates a previous good week. Tbh I like how he does it...
iirc, before the season, sancho and holmes were named season-long O captains, revis and bo D captains, and smitty the ST captain. then at some point during the season, moore was indeed added as an additional captain.
Unlike the offensive line, the Jets actually chose to address the lack of depth at the Captain position.
i am fairly certain that this is a typo and they meant to say s tracy wilson in the email. I will be shocked if kyle wilson moves to safety even with leonhard's injury
