I just wanted say this, it is entirely possible 9-7 might be enough to get in. Do any of us want to get in at 9-7!?!? hell no, but look at these schedules: Raiders: @Chiefs, Chargers Bengals: @Cardinals, Ravens Titans: Jaguars, @Texans Its not even out of bounds to think 8-8 could get us in. The mindset of all these teams is that their collapsing, especially the Raiders. How do you think the Titans feel losing to the Colts? im sure they are questioning themselves right now. The Cardinals have been playing great football and are fully capable of beating the Bungles. I dont see the Raiders or Titans winning both their final 2 games. I also dont think the Bengals can beat the Ravens. 9-7 should get us in, but lets of course id rather go 10-6. Ill be scoreboard watching for sure though.
Just reading this thread reminds me of what a fucking tragic disappointment this season has been. From 2 straight AFC title games and that monster win over the Pats in the playoffs to this. It wasn't at all out of the question to think we would take over the division, get home playoff games and a bye. Dare I say the SB seemed realistic. Now we are just hoping to get into the playoffs with 2 weeks left. UGH!!!
I think that one of those three teams will win out. The only way the Jets make the playoffs is if they go 10-6 and win their last two games IMHO. Interesting point though.
I would rather the Jets just go 10-6, but you never know from week to week which Jets squad is going to show up. Hopefully it is the get into the playoffs and make some fucking noise Jets.
That would be fantastic! lets loose out to a 7-7 team and a 5-11 team, and hope we can still get in and see how badly we can get our asses kicked by the likes of NE,Balt, and Pitt. Sounds like a good time
This season has been a catastrophe! Personally I dont think we deserve to be in the playoffs but what I do think is that losing to the Giants is not an option. Not for the sake of the playoffs but for the sake of Jets fans. Im so tired of hearing how much better the Giants are, and how they are New Yorks team. Neither the Jets or the Giants deserve the playoffs but for my personal well being and that of every other Jets fan, LOSING TO THE GIANTS IN NOT AN OPTION!!!!!
Idk, everyone thought the only possible way was 11-5. I was saying 10-6 or maybe 9-7 would be enough. Any given sunday, I can see all these teams losing next week. You just never know. The Titans and Raiders are 7-7 for a reason, they are average. They both are likely to finish 8-8.
Chill we were going through this last year week 16, you just forget. Remember the feeling after we lost to the Bears, then of course the Titans lost to the Skins in OT and all was good. Then in 2009 we HAD to beat the undefeated Colts, and then the Bengals.
Just get into the playoffs. We got into the playoffs in 09' with 9-7 and I doubt anyone was complaining right before the AFCCG. The whole point of the regular season is just to get into the playoffs. I'd love more consistent play, and I'm sure Rex is focusing on that, but I won't care how we get into the play offs. We could have won out and still wound up at #6 seed. So in the end, as long as we make it, I don't care.
The goal is definitely to get in, but it's hard to feel confident about this team. They haven't beaten a quality team all season. If they don't win out, I don't think they'll make it, but it is very possible.
I think we also have strengh of victory over the Titans to. Right now we are 6-5 in conference while they are 5-5. If we beat the Phins and finish 7-5, and they win both their games and finish 7-5, I think our strength of victory is better than theirs to. Basically from every angle theirs no reason why we dont make the playoffs even if we lose to the Giants. (Which is not going to happen)
We are in the same exact position we were in the last two years. We have yet to be dominant in the regular season.
Look, with 2 'must win' games left in the regular season, the best thing that could have happened is for the Jets to get stomped by a team they are equal to. This benefit will even spill over into the playoffs. NOTHING spurs a team to great strength and victory the following week than getting humiliated on national TV. Just ask the Pack. Losing like we did today virtually guarantees we show up very very very pissed off to close out the season, and move on to destroy the Texans. To a man, our players go home to family, friends, and their own expectations. To a man our team is hurting very badly in a way that only a total crushing of the g-girls and fish will fix. If we eked out another 4th qtr win today, we most likely miss the playoffs altogether.
No instead we had a pretty bad rookie Qb, with a rookie coach. Would you say we even had a pass rush in 09, either? Pass rush has always been our biggest problem. If we can get this god damn O-line fixed, we'd be in decent shape. (and of course if Holmes doesn't ever repeat this performance) Obviously it's not the same team, but at the end of the season, you're only goal is to get into the playoffs. This team has proven over the last two years that it seems to strive in the playoffs. So as of now, that's what I'm expecting.
jets will never dominate the regular season without an elite QB or an elite defense. unfortunately we're also in the wrong division and pretty much will never win the division as long as brady is playing. we have a streaky offense with a consistent defense that is not dominant. if we make the playoffs we're dangerous no doubt about it. it's just too hard to imagine 3 road playoff wins especially considering how poorly we've played vs good teams this year.
frankly idc how we get in as long as we do. this team has been maddening all year long to watch but we all know, once you're in the tourny anything can happen.
