As the Title says: Has other peoples figured out Rex Ryans defense and can it still be effective again? Or are we just missing the players and talent to execute his game plans? Between comments like that and the fact we went from one of the top 3 defenses and slowly declining, I'm starting to wonder if people just have our ticket when it comes to Defense.
I think Leonhard being out was a definite factor. I recall someone saying the Jets were going to have to use less complexity with him out. They seemed to use a lot more zone yesterday. This is a team designed to be difficult to read. When you mix in too much basic zone coverage, the opponent can more easily figure out how to attack it.
I saw wilson come off the corner at least 3 times----twice he hesitated bigtime and the other he over ran and lost the edge / containment and let Vick run past him-------this is just one case of a guy not executing I don't know if we are figured out I think we just flat out sucked yesterday
It's impossible to tell, since they are clearly less talented than they used to be at most positions (if for no other reason than that they are older, and the younger players haven't stepped up yet [if they ever will]).
I'm baffled that the media can use anything Eric Smith says as some kind of explaination to what's happening on the field. In the few times he's not getting burned by some massive tight end with mediocre speed, he looks clueless.
Scheme is only effective if you have the talent to execute it. The Jets don't have the horses. Unfortunately, it will be several years before they can assemble the talent necessary to execute Ryan's defense. And, by that time, Ryan will have been run out of town.
This defense is full of average players,a few above average and Darelle Revis. We're just not that good.
Yes, I think that a lot of the disguises have been figured out. Plus, from something I read, Pettine cut down the amount of calls on the playsheet since Leonhard was out.
If all Rex wants in a S is intelligence and not the ability to cover TEs, make tackles, read the QB, and all of the other stuff safeties usually do, we should sign Pennington and convert him to S. Dude was a Rhodes Scholar finalist. I wonder if Tone would let him have his old # back?
the defense is 3 peices away from being back in elite level edge rusher:could be maybin.hopefully because it's hard to find one in the draft at pick 20 or later safety:someone who can stop making every t.e. look like tony gonzalez in his prime. ilbne that can go sideline to sideline making plays if we can acquire 2 of the 3 the defense will be good enough to win
just because he has physical limitations as a player doesnt mean hes not aware of whats going on with this defense
No pass rush. Can't cover a TE. And maybe it's just me, but I always considered Devito a good complimentary guy. I never thought he'd end up having the role in the defense that's it's become the past two seasons.
