It's Wednesday already and the play offs have started early this year.
Lets get this right guys the loser of this game on Saturday are done; stick a fork in them.

On Sunday morning one half of the New York football faithful will be waking up with that most heinous of gifts that we all threatened our Kids with or were told by our parents would be in our stocking on Christmas morning if we didn't behave- a lump of coal!

Start facing reality guys a huge lump of that big black rock could be in our sock on Sunday.
How will you suffer Christmas day if the worst happens? Or how will a victory over the G men lift your spirits?

Just occurred to me that there aren't any negative awards in sports. How great would it be for the loser of the game to get awarded a big ol' bucket of coal?!

Since I started this I better chip in first.

I always have one goal at the start of the NFL season and that is to be alive at Christmas- that is my beloved Jets for a play off shot and hopefully me in body and spirit and everyone will know how these 2 things are inextricably connected, after a life time of heartache.

I can't even contemplate the thought of cooking that fucking Turkey if we have lost on Christmas eve. My wife and Kids always buy me a load of stuff all connected with the Jets and if you appreciate our location you can imagine the lengths my loved one's go to show me some love. I don't know if I could suffer another "Bob Wischusen bottle opener" with his dulcet tones shouting ........
" Greene takes the hand off to the 30, to the 20, 10 touchdown! And the jets are going to the championship game for the second year in a row................."

If we have the hangover I'll use a large amount of Jets tees etc to use as kindling to get the coal alight so I stay warm when smoking on my patio as we're having guests

I could take the optimistic route and google machine that can apply trillions of tons square foot pressure and turn that coal into a diamond. My better half will be impressed but not when I tell her I'm gifting it to the Jets for the eventual SB ring of the future materials

In the event of a win I will be full of bonhomie and good cheer and may be put an old tee on the dog when going out for a walk

I spit up my beer when I read this thinking of Rex and Mark together holding up a scuttle of coal on a stage in Met life whilst blue confetti rains down.

The whole concept has great potential. Imagine the loser of a Raiders-49ers Battle of the Bay would have to do a musical number from the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midfield while rainbow confetti rains down. Raiders fans do the first part just about every Sunday, so it would just be formalizing it.

Dallas vs Houston - The Cowpie Bowl. Endless possibilities.

I have the Knicks to fall back on after Sunday so it's a win win for me. My expectations died this year when wayne hunter was exposed for being absolute hot trash and our safeties can't cover a TE to save their lives.

A loss to the Giants won't eliminate us, it will just mean we're going to need a lot of help getting in rather than control our own destiny.

On Christmas Eve, 2000 we had a win-and-in game at Baltimore vs the eventual champion Ravens and their vaunted defense. Vinny threw two quick TDs (something nobody else could do against them) and we led 14-0, but he threw a bad, 100-yard pick-six going into the half and we blew the game. Capped a skid from 6-1 to 9-7 after we lost at home vs a bad Lions team a week earlier on a John Hall missed chip shot FG.

That was worse than this could be, no outside chance, no next game, just a sudden, long off-season beginning Christmas Day.

We'll be fine. That was Al Groh, from the Tom Coughlin school of peaking in October. We have Rex now, aside from the annual December stinker we're pretty good down the stretch. I hope.

Groh quit the following week, by the way.

Losing to the Lions is what did it for me..... after that, I knew it was toast. That was the worst game ever....

I was visiting family in GA for xmas, and went to a sportsbar to watch the game with high hopes but low expectations..... A Baltimore defeat would've been a nice present, that I wasn't expecting..... I was surprised they put up the offense they did. I got there a little late (didn't know where the place was) to see the JETS up 14-0 (YES! Merry Christmas!) but man did that game turn into a clusterfuck.

That season had some of the best and worst JETS games ever.

oh yeah..... I remember my parents gave me a Chrebet Jersey that year for xmas too.... there was a brief awkward silence
