I wonder if I should be worried, New England needs an offensive cordinator, and Schitty might be available. Oh man if we gotta play against Schitty twice a year !
No one is worried that a coach who knows nothing about offense wants to be more involved? Really? There was a great article that I read today which basically said the Jets need to do what the Packers and Saints did, only on offense, and just hire an OC, give him carte blanche, and let Rex worry about fixing his over-rated defense. I want Rex to literally have nothing to do with the offense.
It's impossible for any good defensive coordinator not to know offense. What Rex has lacked in is holding the OC accountable during the game. After the game it is too late. As a head coach you can't watch a game as an owner does, you need to address problems with your coordinators during game time. You don't lose games just because you don't want to hurt someone's feelings.
If Rex becomes more involved with the O that means more of a run game. I think that alone solves a ton of our problems. Think about it, we gave up the most points since 1996. The reason for this is because of turnovers but mostly due to the fact that we went 3 and out way too many times. Sometimes in under a minute! We won the game in Indy(playoffs) and most of our games the first 2 years with Rex due to one reason---we controlled the ball more than the other team. Running the ball wears down the opponent's D and provides us with a fresh D all year. Time to improve the line and running game, then it won't matter what the hell sanchez does(also prevents manning from getting killed if we're able to land him).
Exactly. You can't tell me that a guy that has had multiple top 5 defenses over many years doesn't understand the way offenses work. How can you be defend something that you don't understand? I want Rex to be more involved in the offense. He's got to be the head coach, not a glorfied DC. I want the HC to understand immediately why the Jets are passing too much or understand when there are issues amongst the offensive personnel so he can do something about them before the issues escalate.
both mc daniels and martz are available. sice turner is back in san diego, and callaghan refused a contract extension, they need to consider anyone whose expertise is in down-the-field offense. the jets didn't win the super bowl with a dink-and-dunk offense.hmy:
This, the rotoworld and thread topic is patently false and misleading. Trying to make something out of nothing.
From what I understand, they dont want to fire Schotty because they like him personally and it looks better for him when he is applying for a job. Even though in the press conference, the brass said Schotty was staying this organization has basically made all the smart moves since Tanny took over and it seems foolish to think that regardless of whether he gets his head coaching job, schotty wont be back
Typical for you, you miss the point. Will you be one of those ex-Jet fans come Opening Day if Schotty is still the OC? Heh. My point is, since you seem to have missed it, is that Tanny and Rex are not saying Schotty will not be back. They are saying, which would be true of ANY coordinator, that if they got an HC offer from another NFL team, they would likely take it and leave. Duh. Otherwise, they are saying he will be back. Does that mean it is CERTAIN he will be back even if he does not get an offer? No. But how you interpret what they have been saying into "Schotty won't be back!" is beyond me.
Not only that but during the Miami game, NO ONE was going over to Sanchez when he was on teh sidelines. Never once did I see someone bring him pics of the defense or go to talk to him...Schotty or Cav or anyone? All Sanchez did was sit under teh umbrella like he was on vacation. I thought that was quite bizarre
The coaching circle in NFL is very small so it's common for them to show that respect for each other that you don't see in other professions. Most viable candidates will turn down the chance the interview unless it is already vacant. That included HC & coordinators.
callahan is still a possibility.he just hasn't signed an extension so he can interview for anyoc jobs that may be available to him.last year they refused to let him interview so this year he is able to make his own calls
I for one think its over due. Rex should have at least some type of knowledge of something other than the defense. As a poster said further up, Sanchez doesn't really get a lot of coaching or even pep talk after a drive. Even Brady gets talked to with by his OC or HC whether he threw a interception or a touchdown he sits back on that bench and talks about something.
Nobody else finds it disturbing that instead of replacing the weak link,we are going out of our way to support it? I mean I've NEVER seen this much done for an OC in my life. WTF is up with the consultants and the monitoring and shit? If a guy can't do his job, just get another guy. Its like hiring an assistant for a grocery bagger.
