Funny you should say this as I see a similar thing happening in NE. I think Belichick sees Josh as his heir apparent. They have so much in common, wasn't the Broncos under Josh caught videotaping an opponent walkthrough?
Not following you. McDaniels left NE, with Belichick's blessing. That he was fired and is returning is very much different than what happened with the Parcells/Belichick fiasco at the Jets. That was pretty obviously an attempt to force something to happen that didn't want to happen. McDaniels returning to NE isn't being 'forced' by anyone. Now, if there is some contractual 'line of succession' that comes up later, I will be wrong. But I doubt that is going to be the case.
The Jets were in the process of poaching Bill Parcells from NE when the Patriots were preparing for the Superbowl. This wins the TreacheryBowl.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Belichick stayed with the Jets AND drafted Brady in the 6th round? That's not a pretty picture at all.
If you want to have fun with what ifs, what if Parcells guarentees Peyton Manning that he will draft him first overall. If the Jets get Manning early on I suspect either Belichick or Parcells stay for awhile.
Oh, I meant just the relationship between Belichick and McDaniels compared to that of Parcell and Belichick. Belichick left to coach the Browns with parcells blessings, failed and returned....
Meanwhile, our GM sits around, thumb planted firmly up his ass, and waits for Brian Schottenheimer to find a head coaching job that will never come.
Yep, anyone know why Parcells did not make that guarentee? Certainly, there was no player who he would have drafted instead of Peyton Manning.
Can the NFL block this in anyway? I think this move gives the Pats a competitive advantage because of what McDaniels has seen this season, he has played a lot of the playoff teams: Steelers, Ravens, Bengals Saints which they beat packers 49ners Giants
They won't miss a beat, wow. Alot of Patriot fans were calling for B.O.B's head last year and early in the season. His playcalling is meh IMO. Nothing special, not terrible. Funny how he yells at Brady in thew Washington game, screams at the entire offense down 21 to the Bills last week. Gets a little publicity and now he is a great canidate for many coaching positions. Can people and teams/college just STOP thinking or hoping they will find the pats special lightning in a bottle/secret sauce.
He felt the Jets needed a lot more than just a QB to Rebuild. He traded out of the #1 spot. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/columnist?id=1541913 If we want to be cynical we can assume he didnt want to have to break in a rookie qb and wanted to turn the jets around quick to maintain his reputation. Just to be fair, he might have be constricted by the cap: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=529 But a Manning/Keyshawn/Chrebet pass offense would have been fun
What's funny is how you think. Now I know how you got your rep on here. O'Brien is the OC. McDaniels will just help him implement the gameplan.
Not to mention Parcells going from NE to the Jets (including tampering) - which was a lateral move, not a promotion, and then the Jets promoting Parcells to GM and BB to HC in order to try to prevent NE from talking to BB.
