You can't play for a draft pick. Then you might actually have some success and ruin your plans. Besides, who knows, Peterson might McGahee or Gore himself, and if he doesn't end up working out, you're set back even further.

I love how everyone has thrown Blaylock, Houston and Washington into the trash heap after basically one half of preseason football. Talk about knee-jerk knuckleheadedness.
Meanwhile, you want to give away draft picks for Barlow, who stinks and barely held onto a starting job with the worst team in the NFl last year, and Duckett, who has never proven anything.
The Jets can afford to give Blaylock/Houston/Washington a chance to fail. That's what you do in a rebuilding year.

nah Marshawn Lynch should be somewhere around 17-20 which is where i think we'll be.

Yeah duce would look good in green and white.

I don't think there's anything more to it than rumors. The whole reason Duckett is being shopped is because Atlanta is going to a more of a zone blocking scheme with smaller, more athletic lineman which makes a power back who goes north south in between the tackles a poor fit. Which coincidentally, is the same description of what the Jets line is like. Madden be damned, it's about getting guys that fit the system more than attempting to fit square pegs in round holes.

a 3rd rounder is way too much, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I'd really like to see him in a Jet uniform, but not at that price. Even if we did get him, I don't think he's a long term solution, and I think we should still draft a franchise guy next year. Now, say that we did end up drafting a guy like Adrian Peterson next year. Would a 3rd rounder for Duckett still be too much knowing that you could end up having one of the better running back duos in the league-a nice power back like Duckett and an athlete like Peterson?

I heard reports that Duece is WAY out off shape this year and his only role will be short yardage/goal line.

Just because its a rebuilding year doesn't mean that you don't try to WIN as many games as you can. If the CS thinks one of these guys can help us win this year and next then go get em. So it sounds look we should just forfeit all the games and get the number 1 pick in '07. Seems like that would make alot of people around here happy. I guess you'll be throwing things and very angry when we do WIN a game. Now I know that we've got issues on this team but I'll be drinking beer and cheering for them to WIN every game they play. I'll worry about '07 when it gets here.

Football isn't chess. You don't think 5 moves in advance. You look at what you have today, what you need, and what it will cost you. If a move make sense based upon that assessment, you do it. I promise you there is not 1 front office guy in the NFL even giving a passing thought to Adrian Peterson.

Maybe we should start to think 5 moves in advance since what we've been doing hasn't worked very well.

I have to disagree with you here DBJ.....of course you think 5 moves ahead...that is how you build a team. That is why we didnt trade up for reggie bush this year. You need to have a regime that is able to plan ahead. what do you think bill belichek and bill parcells are doing when they trade down every year in the draft. they acquire extra picks in future years. Now I will agree with you that they dont neccesarily have the exact guy in mind that they are going to draft in the future, but to say you dont think ahead in football is crazy. You know who doesnt think ahead? Bad football teams.

I'm not saying you don't think ahead. Clearly, that is what this regime is doing...they picked up a second round pick. All I am saying is that you can't resign yourself to a losing season, so you can pick up the best available RB next season. You don't neccessarily go balls-out/win-now every season, nor do you mortgage today for next year. It is a balancing act. If the benefit of picking up a RB this year at the expense of a draft pick next year is worthwhile to Tangini, so be it. You can't just dismiss it out of hand.

If memory serves me, I think we have 2 second round picks next year so even though it may take a third to get Duckett, it may not be the end of the world.

No way Duckett is worth a 3rd round pick. He is worth a 6th maybe.
