Didn't see this article posted anywhere: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2012/05/jets_players_see_a_more_involv.html Some quotes that stood out to me: Revis: "But he's the head coach, he has a lot on his plate, a lot of pressure. It's just something that maybe he thought he put more trust in the coaching staff, and seeing that it kind of hurt us last year, maybe, a little bit...Not to frown on any coaches or anything, how they coached, but it’s good to see your head coach being involved, at least just putting his two cents in. You just hear his voice every now and then in the meeting room, so I think it is good." "Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine took over as the primary defensive play-caller for the first time last season, and Ryan spoke with Pettine this offseason about resuming a more active role with the unit ." "Revis said it was difficult at times as a player to control the internal locker-room discord. He said he would hear things that were going on with the offense, and he tried to spin it back in a positive way." "The Jets have adopted a "one step faster" motto on defense" I found it to be a good read. See Ryan addressing something that might have hurt the team last year. Also interesting that Ryan wants a bigger role after handing reins to Mike. We seemed to blitz less last year. Don't know if it was lack of players, other teams ready, or lack of Ryan calling the defense.
yeah. our defense is going to be really good this year. Once we get back to plugging up the run like two seasons ago, add a little pressure on the qb, I think our dbs are going to have a field day. I like it when Calvin Pace hits the quarterback, that's fun to watch. Revis is a seasoned vet now, please throw it anywhere near him (this is going to be a BIG time break out year for him, quite all the, "non-believers." We're starting to get bigger up front and we are faster than anyone in our secondary. People are going to know who we are. Be afraid, be VERY afraid. **clink, clink** "Band of lunatics, come out and playa!"
He is also more involved in Adam Sandler's new movie "That's My Boy." See the clip at 0:35 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPV2L2CGWdQ
Even the biggest piece of shit darksider should be able to recognize the defense will always be good under RR and his staff. Wilkerson-Pouha-Coples is gonna be beast.
I'm not trying to be a smartass but if he wasn't calling D plays last year and he didn't know about the locker room rift, and Schotty had total control over the O, then what exactly was he doing last year?
If they don't let him say "fuck" or "god damn" at least a couple times in that movie then it is a tragedy
It's not as cut and dry as that and it's been stated many times the "rift" was blown out of proportion. It wasn't a "rift" it was frustration.... It's not like RR sits in on every meeting.
I think he was meeting more and more with the coaches than the actual players. So he was working more on the plays, strategies, etc than diving into the players and every meeting. I think he was trying to find a balance and he went too far away from the players. Basically, I think he was going too much through the coaches and not directly to the players. He was trying to trust his coaches and give them responsibility, but it ended up backfiring.
Your speculation is pretty much on the money. There were a couple of articles early in the off-season that I am way too lazy/busy to look up where Rex states he was delegating more and trying to be an overall manager rather than hands on coach in everything. He was also spending more time with offensive coaches.
The Jests' best WR was dissing the starting QB for the last month of the season. None of Sanchez's teammates stood up for him, but only looked the other way. This only came to light when Holmes threw a temper tantrum on the field in the Miami game, and got benched for it. Not only was Rex clueless, it seems like the rest of the Jets coaches were as well.
That play was bad cause it was a loss and kept the Tebowmania bullshit humming along. But in terms of impact on a team? The Ed Reed decapitation of Mark Sanchez, fumble, run in for TD. When I watched that play I distinctly remember trying to duck Reed myself just watching the TV and felt pangs in my neck after he leveled Mark. Brick was doing his best impersonation of Wayne Hunter at that moment. That hit hurt - ALOT.
I expect nothing less from him, especially after last year. I heard so many conferences where he acknowledged all the bad moves he himself made for the team. It's one thing to say it but another thing is to practice it. The fact he's becoming much more involved... it gets me "excited" about this upcoming year w/ sexy Rexy.
Bahaha. Pure lie. There were a bunch of people that stood up for Sanchez, and Holmes wasn't criticizing him for the entire last month! He was frustrated, but didn't say anything that outrageous.
The Oakland game was where it first hit me that last season's D was gonna be in trouble. The way they struggled to hold that edge defensively surprised me. Was hoping Rex would find a way to hide the slowness with schemes but we all know how turned out.
