I am so proud of how Kellen Clemens is performing in the preseason so far. In the 16-3 loss at Tampa Bay, he tossed 10/14 for 92 yards. In the 27-13 win at Washington, he threw for 2/4 and 1 TD. Very impressive! How did he slip to the 2nd round?hmy:
The big name qbs always take the spotlight.History always repeats itself and when it comes to qbs. Joe Montana,Brett Favre,Dan Marino etc later round picks we all know the stories.
Let's not start proclaiming him as the second coming of Montana just yet. Most of his reps are coming against 2nd stringers and guys who might not even make the roster. That said, I like him too, and I hope that he becomes a superstar, god knows we could use one.
He clearly has a good arm and a quick release. I still want to see him calmly go back in the pocket scan the field and throw the ball 25 yards down the field successfully without running out of the pocket. None of our QB's including Chad seem to be able to drop back with their heads up and make a quick throw 25 yards down field. Everything seems to be on a rollout or moving pocket.
FITM is right. It was discussed at length during the ESPN telecast by Jaws and Hodge that his injury status was what dropped his value. Remember, while Young/Cutler/Leinart were making headlines, Clemens was sitting on the sidelines from October on. Jaws/Hodge agreed that Clemens was the best QB in the draft, talent-wise. They both claimed that his injury was the sole factor in his drop in draft value. Also, I think the fact that Clemens is not a media darling type probably hurt him too. He freely admitted early on that he is not a city type. He prefers being on a farm to the big lights. He is playing very well so far. I like what I see for the future. I am not getting overly excited yet, but I see this kid being a real keeper. Winston, I think the reason why we are seeing so many rollouts is by design. Until the OLine has had a chance to jell, the CS is going to continue to call for mobile plays. There's no sense in practicing a 3 step drop if it results in another situation like last year. When the games count, I think we will see a vastly different offensive scheme. I'm playing wait-and-see with it. I think it's smart strategy right now. We'll see if things don't change in September.
He has been very impressive. If things dont work out for Chad this year he should be the QB by next year. He slipped so far in the draft because he had an injury otherwise he probably would of been a 1st rounder. A lot of people say he could end of being better then Leinart.
