Good interview with Pettine on the 2012 defensive outlook. http://www.newyorkjets.com/photos-a...-Pettine/44d266cd-f43f-490b-bc27-5e72dc82fd1b
Great. Hey, I'm suddenly pumped up for 2012. Lower expectations - something to prove to all the doubters. I like it. Wish we opened with NE. I think we'll come out on fire this year. I liked that he mentioned Kendrick Ellis looking faster, and I was surprised he mentioned Ricky Sapp at least twice. What I didn't like was NOT hearing Kyle Wilson mentioned. Overall, great interview.
Great interview. It does make sense we'll see more 4-3 base looks, as the Dline a more versatile unit which could be a strength. Glad to keep hearing Wilkerson ready for the next step, and i have liked what i've seen from Dixon in terms of penetrating the line. A 4 man rush (regardless of which position is rushing) would go a long way for the D. Fingers crossed that Coples turns into a Boom pick.. He was pretty straight forward regarding the 46 too. Like the Wildcat/Option on offense, the 46 causes offenses to prepare. Jets will try it early in games, and abandon quick if offenses have an answer. If not they'll continue pressing it. I think its a defense most effective on inexperienced QB's due to the pressure of it. Veteran savvy QB's will quickly audible to a hot read....but still they need to take time to prepare for it.
Thanks for posting. A few things I found interesting... - Kenrick Ellis has lost a lot of weight and is looking faster. I didn't realize they wanted him smaller. Maybe that explains his limited use last year. - Ellis Lankaster has the inside track on the 4th CB spot. - Confirmation that we will see more 4-3 looks. - He expects a breakout year for Joe McKnight. Nice.
I read a quote somewhere from Ellis where he basically said that coming from a small school he was swimming from a mental standpoint last year.
Yeah, I also heard some talk about not having good techniqe and pad level issues and stuff. I just thought Petine's comments were interesting because Ellis was massive and I thought that was the attraction to him - a massive NT. Perhaps after signing up Pouha to an extension, they want Ellis smaller so he is more versatile on other parts of the line.
I know Coples will play a lot of 3T on passing downs, but I would imagine he will play some DE as well when we run a four man front. I'm just thinking about this front four in a passing situation and am drooling: RDE: Maybin RDT: Big Mo LDT: Marcus Dixon LDE: Coples
